II. INTRODUCTORY CONCEPT


Academic writing is a form of writing using formal language and
includes data, such as actual events, dates, names of authoritative persons
and other facts that are taken from other sources to back up its statements.
It is written to inform, persuade, argue or support a claim. Research paper is
an example of this.

CHARACTERISTICS:
 Clarity – easily understood by intended audience
 Conciseness – clear without excess verbiage
 Specific Audience – targeted to particular readers
 Specific Purpose – written for a specific purpose
 Accuracy – factual, correct and free from bias
 Correctness – follows grammatical and technical
conventions
 Comprehensiveness – contains all necessary
information
 Accessibility – includes Table of Content, headings,
subheadings, indexes

Literary writing is also called as Creative Writing which inspires and


entertains with word pictures, concepts and has deep meaning. It is usually
fictional, and it makes use of figurative or symbolic language. It is enjoyable
to read. It touches us while teaching us. It is written in an artistic way.
CHARACTERISTICS:
 Usually fiction that displays a sense of reality.
 Tension or conflict
 Artistic unity (a main idea is conveyed)
 Figurative language (similes, metaphors, irony,
symbolism, analogy)
