As an institution of learning, a school need to


challenge itself to prosper the love for reading in every
pupils. In accordance to DepEd memorandum order no. 161,
s. 2019, Villa Arcaya Elementary School celebrated a month
long activities for the National Reading Month 2019 with the
theme: Magbasa’t Umunlad.

National Reading Month is conducted annually


in accordance to Department of Education’s mission of
fostering love for reading among the pupils. It is a
nationwide celebration to be celebrated by pupils,
teachers and stakeholders alike. This year’s theme is
Magbasa’t Umunlad and every school are expected to
adhere to recommended activities and encouraged to
add more if see fit. The Reading Month is expected to
inspire pupils to commemorate the importance of
reading in their journey for knowledge. They will be able
to showcase their interest in myriads of activities. Nov. 27-Pupils and teachers of Villa
Arcaya joined nationwide synchronized
Furthermore, the reading month will feature different
story reading time as Araw ng Pagbasa
skills that could be enhanced by reading and pursuant to Republic Act No. 10556
demonstrate it.

#Shareabook Activity. The teachers shared and read


storybook for the pupils. The pupils answered
comprehension questions.
Other activities done in Villa Arcaya Elementary School during the National Reading Month
Celebration were Mystery Reader, Leaders of readers and Reading Challenge. Teachers chose
story books that were collected and put it in the llibrary/reading corner and learning space of the
school. Reading games were also included to encourage them to read. In a world where digital
gadgets are quickly taking over children’s attention, encouraging them to read seems to be a
challenge. However, this does not mean that they are digressing from progressing. VAES
continuously arranged array of activities that could foster and share their love for reading.
