NARRATIVE REPORT ON
THE 1st QUARTER NATIONWIDE SIMULTANEOUS EARTHQUAKE
DRILL
February 21, 2019
To mitigate the effects of earthquakes in case of its occurrence, Quezon National High
School, in coordination with the Municipal Disaster and Risk Reduction Management
Council, Bureau of Fire Protection and Philippine National Police conducted the First Quarter
National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill. This event is carried out in adherence to DepEd
Memorandum dated January 14, 2019. This activity was started at exactly two o’clock in the
afternoon (2:00 pm ) through the one-minute ringing of the bell which signaled the first phase
of earthquake which is the shaking of the ground. While the roaring is going on, the learners
did the “duck, cover and hold” inside the classrooms or laboratories where they were on that
particular time. When the sound ended, the learners together with their teachers went out from
their classrooms and proceeded to an open area, the school ground, which is considered the
safest place in the school for it is far from buildings, trees, electrical posts and other
dangerous structures. Then, the teachers did the head count among their students.
STEM student volunteers, through the assistance of their adviser, Mrs. Jeniffer Olalde
conducted a mock performance in the rescue operation and administration of first aid. The
event was also highlighted by a radio broadcast of the ongoing event anchored by Darwin
Cauilan, Fevelyn Ines and Janelle Jimenez.
An evaluation also followed. SFO1 Reynold Tamayo of BFP-Quezon gave his honest
comments and feedback on the way the drill was executed. The BFP noticed that some
students are not aware of what was happening. He also reminded the students not to leave the
evacuation center immediately, for there might be aftershocks which are more dangerous.
They said that it is advised to stay put in the evacuation area to avoid possible danger. But in
the end they congratulated Quezon National High School for a very successful conduct of this
years’ earthquake drill.
With the lectures given to the learners prior to the conduct of this earthquake drill coupled
with the collaborative effort of all the people concerned, Quezon National High School once
again portrayed a successful execution of this earthquake drill. Rest assured that those
feedbacks given will be noted and addressed in the next earthquake drills to come. We are
looking forward to the success of this endeavor all throughout the country.
