MODULE-7 EXAMINATION – 2017-18


MATHEMATICS (CODE NO. 041)
CLASS-X
Time Allowed: 3 Hours Maximum Marks: 80
General Instructions:
1. All questions are compulsory.
2. The question paper consists of 30 questions divided into four sections A, B, C and D.
3. Section A contains 6 questions of 1 mark each. Section B contains 6 questions of 2 marks each. Section C
contains 10 questions of 3 marks each. Section D contains 8 questions of 4 marks each.
4. There is no overall choice. However, an internal choice has been provided in four questions of 3 marks each
and three questions of 4 mark each. You have to attempt only one of the alternatives in all such questions.
5. Use of calculators is not permitted.

Section - A (6x1==6)

1. 1 is a zero of the polynomial p(x) = px2 – 3(p - 1) x - 1. Find the value of p.


2. Sin θ = √ 3 cos θ. Find sin2 θ – cos2 θ
3. Find the common difference if a16 - a14 = 18..
4. The coordinate of the midpoint of the line joining the points

(3p, 4) and (-2, 2q) is (5,p). Find the value of p and q.

5. Find the rational number between √ 2 and √ 3.


6. In an equilateral triangle ABC, AD is drawn perpendicular to BC meeting BC in D. Express AD in terms
of BD.

Section -B (6x2=12)

7. Find the largest number which divides 70 and 125 leaving remainder 5 and 8 respectively.
8. Find the value of K for which the following pairs of linear equation has no solution

x + 2y = 3, (k, -1)x + (k + 1)y = k + 2.

9. Which term is the first positive term of an AP: - 173, – 165, – 157,……………….. Also find the term.
10. Cards marked with numbers 25 to 50 are put in a box and mixed thoroughly one card is drawn at random
from the box. Find the probability that the card drawn is a multiple of 2 or 3.
11. If the points A(x, y),B (3,6) and C (-3, 4) are collinear.

Show that x - 3y + 15 = 0.

12. Three coins are tossed once. Find the probability of getting (a) exactly two heads, (b) atleast two heads.

Section -C (10x3=30)

13. Show that the square of any positive integer is of the form 3m or 3m + 1 for some integer m.
14. On dividing x3 + x2 + x - 2 by a polynomial g(x) quotient and remainder were x2 + 2x + 1 and 2x - 1
respectively. Find g(x).
15. Solve graphically 2x - 3y - 1 = 0 and 3x – 2y + 6 -= 0. Also find the coordinates of the points where
these two lines meet the X axis.

16. Find a point on X axis which is equidistant from the points (5, 4) and (-2, 3). Also find the equal
distance.

(or)

Find the ratio in which the line 3x + y - 9 = 0 divides the line segment joining the points (1, 3) and (2,
7). Also find the point of intersection.

17. Without using trigonometric tables evaluate the following:

18. In a right triangle ABC right angled at C, P and Q are the points on the sides CA and CB respectively
which divides these sides in the ratio 2: 1. Prove that 9 (AQ2 + BP2) = 13AB2

(or)

In this figure AB is parallel to DE and BD is parallel to EF. Prove: DC2 = CF X AC.

19. From a point P, two tangents PA and PB are drawn to a circle with centre O. If OP is equal to diameter
of the circle. Show that triangle APB is an equilateral triangle.
20. In this figure ABC is a right angled triangle in which A = 90°. Semi-circle are drawn with AB, BC and
AC as diameters. Find the area of the shaded region if AB = 21cm and AC = 28cm.
21. A bucket is in the form of frustum a cone and holds 28.490 litres of water. The radii of the top and
bottom are 28cm and 21cm respectively. Find the height of the bucket.

(or)

A well of diameter 7m is dug 22.5m deep and the earth dugout is used to from an embankment of width
10.5m. Find the height of the embankment.

22. Find the median from the following data:

Section -D (8x4=32)

23. Rs.6500 were equally denoted among a certain number of students for buying books. Had there been 15
more students each would have got Rs.30 less. Find the original no of students. What moral value is
depicted in this question?

(or)

Solve using Quadratic Formula:

9x2 - 9(a + b) x + 2a2 + 5ab + 2b2 = 0.

24. 200 logs were stacked in the following manner: 20 logs in the bottom row, 19 in the next row, 18 in the
row next to it and so on. In how many rows 200 logs are placed and how many logs are in the top row?
25. Prove: The ratio of the areas of two similar triangle is equal to the square of the ratio of their
corresponding sides.

(or)
Prove: In a triangle if square of one side is equal to the sum of the squares of other 'wo sides the angle
opposite to the first side is a right angle.

26. Draw a circle of radius 3cm. Take two points P and Q on one of its extended diameter each at a distance
of 7 cm form its centre. Draw tangents to the circle from these two points P and Q.
27. Jf tane + sino = m and tano - sino = n. Show that m2 – n2 = 4 √ mn.
28. The angle of elevation of a Jetplane from a point A on the ground is 60°. After a flight of 15secs the
angle of elevation changes to 30°. If the Jetplane is flying at a constant height of 3600m find the speed
of the Jetplane in km / hr.
29. A toy is in the shape of a right circular cylinder with a hemisphere on one end and a cone on the other
end. The height and radius of the cylindrical part are 13cm and 5cm respectively. Calculate the surface
area of the toy if height of the toy is 30cm.
30. Find the missing frequencies if mode of the following data is 65 and the sum of all frequencies is 50.

Or

Compute the mean by step deviation method.
