INTERCHANGEABILITY RULES
Rule 1. Connection ID. When mixing weights that are interchangeable, there will be a step in the ID of the
connection if the weights have different connection IDs. The step will be approximately equal to one-half the
difference in the connection IDs. VAM TOP HC and VAM TOP HT connections have smaller ID’s than standard
VAM TOP connections. VAM ACE Modified connections have smaller ID’s than standard VAM ACE connections.

Rule 2. Make-up Torque – To avoid yielding of the lighter weight, the following rules apply:
2.1. If there is an overlap in the torque range for the two weights, use a make-up torque that satisfies both
weights.
2.2. If the torque ranges do not overlap, use the maximum torque of the lower range as "Optimum" with a
tolerance of +/-5%.

All weights are interchangeable within each size.

For 23/8” to 41/2”, interchangeable weights are shown below. For sizes ≥ 5” OD, all weights are interchangeable
within each size.

For sizes ≥ 5” OD, VAM TOP HC and VAM TOP HT are interchangeable with VAM TOP. (See Rules #1 & #2).
IMPORTANT NOTE: FOR 4½” OD ONLY, VAM TOP HC AND VAM TOP HT ARE NOT INTERCHANGEABLE
WITH STANDARD VAM TOP.

VAM SLIJ II connections of different weights are not interchangeable.

VAM FJL connections of different weights are not interchangeable.


Note – Any VAM connections designated with an “ –Nx” suffix, (where x=a,b,c,…), are not interchangeable
with standard products. Connections with a “Kx” suffix, (x=a,b,c,…), are interchangeable with standard
products.
