AMERICAN FOOTBALL.

The first is about history; Football is a popular sport in North America. Known as
football in the United States and Canada, it is often called gridiron or American
football in different parts of the world; Football grew out of the English sports such
as rugby and soccer, and became popular on American college campuses in the
late 1800s, The first game was played in 1869 between Princeton and Rutgers
after that in 1976, a coach named Walter Camp who is considered the “Father of
American Football,” helped produce the first rules of American football.
The first professional football player was William “Pudge” Heffelfinger and The
American Professional Football Association was not created until 1920, but a
couple of years later changed its name to the National Football League (NFL) As a
result The NFL was formed in 1921. It became the most popular professional
league in the United States by the 1950s and the American Football League
(AFL) later formed in 1960.
Now concerning the national football league has 32 teams are split into two
conferences; The American Football Conference (AFC) and The National Football
Conference (NFC), The 16 teams in each conference are divided into the East,
North, South and West divisions; every division has four teams, The season lasts
17 weeks. approximately each team plays 16 games and has one week off. This
week of rest is called a "bye week."
After the regular season, the teams play the playoffs this is the moment at the end
of the regular season when the teams compete to arrive at the super bowl.
The super bowl is the annual championship game of the National Football League
(NFL) where the champion of the National Football Conference (NFC) competes
against the champion of the American Football Conference (AFC), this is the last
game of the season.
The super bowl has been around since 1967, The day on which the super bowl is
played. Many people consider as an unofficial American National holiday is called
"Super Bowl Sunday."
The Super Bowl has frequently been the most-watched American television
broadcast of the year and is generally played on the first Sunday in February.
Next, The players; You can find different types of players, For example:
The quarterback is a player who runs the play; he can choose to run with the ball,
pass the ball or throw the ball, he must be able to make right decisions quickly.
The Running backs main job is to run with the ball, but sometimes they must help
protect the quarterback from the defense.
The wide receivers main job is to catch the ball when the quarterback throws it.
The kicker's main job is to kick the ball, usually after a touchdown or kickoff.
The offensive lines the main job is to block or protect the quarterback and other
players that carry the ball.
The defensive player's main job is to stop the other team’s offense from scoring.
These players try to sack or tackle the quarterback and other players carrying the
ball.
Now we have some vocabulary to understand the game, for instance:
End Zone: The area at the end of the football field where the offense tries to take
the ball. This is where touchdowns are scored.
Fumble: When a player drops the ball
Goal posts: The bright yellow bars in each end zone. The kicker kicks the ball
through the goal posts.
Interception: A pass that is caught by a player on the defense.
Line of scrimmage: in football is the yard line that shows the spot of the ball on the
field, This Is an imaginary line, but you can see on tv.
Snap: When a football play begins, the ball is motionless on the ground, The ball is
passed to the quarterback by the center, which is another player on offense.
In America football, We may find different ways to get the score, and the most
important is a touchdown which is worth six points if you score a touchdown, you
will get one or two extra points, You have two options to kick the ball through the
goal posts for one extra point or you can throw or run the ball into the end zone for
two extra points.
Moreover, American Football has a field goal or safety; A field goal is when the
kicker kicks the ball through the goal posts, and A safety occurs when the defense
tackles an offensive player behind their goal line.
Finally, I would like to write about my experience doing this report; it was exciting
because I learned much things that I did not know, I could learn about American
culture and their importance in the sports. Besides, I practiced my English skills,
and I liked looking for information, I have been studying for this for two weeks.
