ABSTRACT
Automotive servicing, Green field high school, Poblacion, Arakan,

Cotabato, October, 2019. “ALTERNATIVE BRAKE FLUID USING OIL”.

Adviser: JOHN LUIS MONTECINO

This research is conducted at green field high school in the second

semester of the year 2019. This research is focused and all about alternative

brake fluid using oil in the brake system. Brake fluid is a fluid that use in our

cars and motorcycle braking system today, there are two types of linkage

use in our brake system, it is using cables and fluid, the old motorcycle they

using cables but the newer one it is using fluid.

The research study used experimental design, and using tables allows

us to represent the data’s and the average of the overall or the general

average percentage of the said fluid. The experiment was done at the

Greenfield high school automotive laboratory.

This experiment is executed in one brake system with three attempt

and trial. All the data are properly and strictly counted; the data we gather is

based on the following parameters: to identify if it is successful or failed.

vii

This research is done by the help and cooperation of group mates. The

experiment is well done and gathered unbiased and firm result of what
output we have. And the table 1 shows that over 3 trials, all attempt and

testing of the said fluid is successful, and get a general average and

percentage of 100%, so the said fluid is effective to use.

In making this research is not easy enough for us to don’t care about

it, it takes most of our time, effort and interest, and sometimes it is the

reason of our stress and tiredness. Doing this study is hard but, because of

aspiration we push and motivates ourselves to finish this study, at least we

can share even a little contribution in the field of automotive, and it is pride

for us, as an automotive students of Greenfield high school and as a citizen

of this nation.

CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION

Back ground of the study

Our world is now full of machineries and high technologies, that make

people easy to work, easy to communicate, and easy to travel other places.

Because of the growth of human knowledge, they invent new things and

design especially in our vehicle today. Vehicle is very important in our daily

life because, we used it in going to work, in a trip, in going to school as a

student, but sometimes it is called as a dangerous machine, because it is the

one factors in vehicular accident. Some reasons why there is a vehicular

accident is losing of brakes, brake is very important in our vehicle in order to

run safely because it can slow and to stop our vehicle where ever you want.

Automotive is all about vehicle, machineries and lot of parts. And when

we talk about brake, it has a lot of part and types that is very important and

has safely significant in order to run. Time on time we use our motorcycle,

and it is normal that our brake fluid gets low.

As a researcher we want to give you a prior knowledge about what is

the best alternative brake fluid is the best to use in times of trouble.

Objectives of the study

The aim of goal of conducting this research paper are:

 To develop an alternative brake fluid using cooking oil.

 To prove and test the effectiveness of the said fluid.

Significance of the study

This study was conducted to develop an alternative brake fluid using

oil in our vehicle. The beneficiaries of this study are the students of grade12

automotive and the motorcycle owner.

1. Grade 12 automotive

- To have a prior knowledge about what fluid is the best alternative in brake

fluid.

2. Motorcycle owner

- To know what fluid can be use instead in brake fluid in times of emergency.

Scope and delimitation

This study focused only the effectiveness of using alternative brake

fluid using oil in brake system of our vehicle.

Time and place of the study

The study was conducted at Greenfield high school, Poblacion, Arakan,

North Cotabato. The experiment was done in automotive shop, and the study

was done by using the available tools and materials of the said school shop.

Operational definition of terms

Brake- Is a device for slowing and stopping a moving vehicle.

Fluid- Is a substance that continually deforms under applied shear stress or

external force.

Alternative- Offering or expressing a choice several alternative plan.

Brake fluid- Is a type of hydraulic fluid used in hydraulic brake application

in automobile, motorcycle and some bicycle.

Cooking oil- synthetic fats used in frying, baking and other type of cooking.

CHAPTER II

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

This chapter would be discussing the differences of the fluid we use in

automobile, and it also includes the possible outcomes to automobile

performance. Because the fluid has very big significance to our vehicle in

order to use our brake system.

We, as a researcher had cited some evidence that show brake fluid

especially in automobile are very important. According to John 1998 brake

fluid are important in our vehicle because brake fluid is the one of the thing

that’s operate in the braking system. However, the master cylinder lacks of

brake fluid Harlem 2000 your braking system is not working and it cause of

accident. Everyday check up your vehicle and maintain it to avoid injuries

and accident.

George miller 2007 braking system is the one of important in the vehicles

because the brake is the one who comes slow your car and stop.

According to (Kwangjin Lee, 1999) long repetitive braking such as one

which occurs during a mountain descent, will result in a brake fluid

temperature rise and may cause brake fluid vaporization. This may be a

concern particularly for passenger cars equipped with aluminum calipers and

with a limited air flow to the wheel brake systems.

As stated by (Thomas Valvano, 2000) the severe thermal distortion of a

brake rotor can affect important brake system characteristics such as the

system response and brake judder propensity. This paper will propose a
technique to determine the thermal distortion under transient or steady

state conditions. The technique involves utilizing a PC-based computer

program to calculate the necessary thermal parameters and apply the

results as input to a finite element-based thermal stress analysis. This unique

approach provides a reliable methodology to determine the heat input and

cooling characteristics of a given brake system in addition to resultant

distortion and stress components within the brake rotor. Analysis results are

also compared to measured temperature and distortion data.

According to (yukinori & Nishiyamakoji takata, 1993) A wheel brake

fluid pressure control device has a main fluid line and a return-flow type

antilock control function. This device also has a fluid supply line branching

from the main fluid line so that it has a traction control function as well. It is

necessary to provide such a device with a shutoff valve for checking the fluid

flow from the fluid supply line to the discharged fluid reservoir while the

master cylinder is being pressurized. The shutoff valve employed is not an

expensive solenoid valve or a pressure-responsive valve, but a pressure-

responsive type check valve which closes when the brake pressure in the

discharge line exceeds a predetermined level.

This shutoff valve is simple in structure and low in cost and can

improve the reliability of the entire device. Also, by using this valve, the
traction control function can be added to an existing antilock control device

at a low cost.

Assumption of the study

This study expected to prove that alternative brake fluid using oil is

effective. This research paper is also expected to provide evidence that will

support the promotion of the alternative brake fluid using oil.

Conceptual framework

The figure below shows the relationship of our independent variable to

the dependent variable. The independent variable in this study is the

alternative brake fluid and the dependent variable is the alternative brake

fluid result.
