Welding Electrode Selection

1. The document provides guidelines for selecting electrodes and preheat/postheat temperatures for welding various material groups and grades, including carbon steel, low-alloy steel, stainless steel, and other high-strength alloys. 2. Electrode types and preheat/postheat temperature ranges are specified based on the material group number and material specifications. For example, group 1 carbon steels can be welded with E-6010 or E-7018 electrodes and require a minimum preheat of 10°C. 3. Proper electrode selection and preheat/postheat temperatures are important to minimize cracking and ensure the required hardness and mechanical properties are achieved in the welded joint.
