1. PURPOSE
1.1 This contract is an addition to any other works contract between Sun City
and the Contractor and is compulsory for all contract companies who

intend working at Sun City, for Sun City or any other organisation at
Sun City
1.3 Companies that are used on a regular basis or that have ongoing contracts
with Sun City can have a safety agreement validated for a period of 12
months, renewable on an annual basis. This agreement could be
terminated should the company not comply with the minimum safety
standards or the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act,
Act 85 of 1993
1.6 It is of utmost importance that all parties involved comply with this
procedure to ensure a safe and hazard free working environment for all
guests, contract agencies and staff.
2. DEFINITIONS

Mandatory agreement between (in this case) the organiser and contractor
to ensure compliance of the Occupational Health & Safety Act in terms of
Section 37.2
4.1 All personnel are required to wear hard hats when working in areas
deemed as “construction sites” during build-up and breakdown of an
event
4.2 Safety shoes are to be worn by all persons working with or lifting heavy
materials. No open, canvas or trainer shoes or persons working
barefoot will be permitted onto the work site
4.3 Eye protection must be worn by all personnel cutting timber, grinding
metals or welding
4.4 All saws, grinding wheels and other portable equipment are to be guarded
as required by the Act and no open, unguarded, inverted saw blades
will be allowed
4.5 A “Hot Works” permit will be required where any welding or grinding is
carried out. This may be obtained from the Sun City Safety Department
4.6 Any person/s working in an elevated position will required a safety
harness which must be secured to a safe structure
4.7 A permit is required for all scaffolding utilised on site. This permit must be
displayed on the scaffold framework during use
4.8 No scaffold structure above 3 meters from the platform may be erected
4.9 When moving the scaffold, no persons will be permitted to be station on
scaffold (wheel scaffold)

5.1 An employer will instruct his employees in the proper use, maintenance
and limitations on the safety equipment provided and the employer will
not permit any employee to work unless such an employee uses the
required safety equipment provided to him

1) To ensure that all injuries and other incidents that may come to your attention, are
reported and investigated.
2) To ensure that all deviations from the standards are rectified.
3) To follow up all recommendations and ensure implementation.
4) To notify the Safety Department and Health and Safety Representative of all incidents in
the work place.
5) To, in the event of a serious injury, follow requirements as noted in Section 24.
6) To ensure that the Health and Safety Policy is prominently displayed and adopted by
yourself and fellow employees.
7) To supply and maintain all occupational health and safety systems.
8) To eliminate or mitigate any hazards or potential hazards.
9) To ensure the safety and absence of risks to health.
10) To establish the hazards related to the health and/or safety of persons to any work which
is performed and establish precautionary measures to be taken.
11) To provide all health and safety information, instructions, training and supervision.
12) Not permit any employee to do any work, unless the precautionary measures have been
taken.
13) To ensure that the requirements of this act are complied with by every person under your
control.
14) To ensure and enforce all measures necessary in the interest of health and safety.
15) to ensure that all employees are informed regarding the scope of their authority.
Relevant requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Act are available in your
department for reference.
Without derogating from the requirements of the Act, the following sections are of
importance: Sections 7, 8, 9, 10, 12, 24, 37 and 38
