Course Objectives:

The purpose of this course is to provide students with a conceptual framework for understanding
the basic theories of management, describe the four management functions of
planning, organizing, leading, and controlling, explain how corporate culture and the
environments of an organization (general, specific, and global) affect management. This course
is designed to give the student a general overview of the business world today.

Learning Outcomes:

At the completion of the course requirements, the student will be able to:

Know about the basic elements of management and business environment


Identify and understand basic business terminology across a variety of business topics.
Examine and discuss how business operates in the social, political, and economic
climates.
Identify common business practices and problems in the functional areas of business.
Identify and explore career opportunities in business.
Plan and organize organizational resources with a view to attaining organizational
objectives
Motivate people by applying the knowledge of the motivation theories
Control people to maintain the standards that were set in previous time.
Upon completion of the course, the student will have both conversation and application
skills regarding the overall business world.

If necessary additional reading materials will be provided in forms of soft copy
Teaching Methodology:

This course will be conducted through classroom lectures. Assigned text materials will be
presented and discussed in class with an emphasis on student-teacher interaction. Students will
be expected to participate in class discussion.
Attendance, Preparation & Participation:

All students are expected to participate actively in discussions, class exercises, activities,
simulation and group work. Regular attendance, preparation and participation in class
discussions is required.
Students are encouraged to exchange contact information and provide support to one another if a
class is missed. Please contact me if you are concerned about your attendance or need additional
information on any assignment. If you are unable to attend 3 or more classes, then you may be
asked to provide explanation.

Assignment and Presentation (if required):


Marks will be distributed based on group and individual performance. So, students are suggested
to study with interaction. Assignment should be submitted within the announced time.
Group Project-
Students are required to make groups for presentation and assignments. Each group will contain
5 members. I will be delegating the control of grading to your group. You will be responsible for
collecting accurate, useable information.
- Your team will be in charge of the entire class for 15 minutes. You will be responsible for
ensuring that several topics are covered during this time.

INSTRUCTIONS
o 80% attendance should be maintained by the Students for appearing the exams.
o Students should try their best to avoid late entrance in the class room which actually disturbs the
whole class and which may not be permitted.
o It is desirable that students attend all the classes during the semester. For two classes absent, there
will be no deduction of marks. If they are absent for more than two classes in the entire semester, 0.5
mark will be deducted per class as penalty beyond the two.
o The course will comprise a mixture of formal lectures and case studies followed by group
discussions. Students are advised to actively participate in class.
o Students are requested to switch off their mobile phone. Their participation in the class is
appreciated. But any kind of bad manner might hamper the marks allocated for performance/
etiquette.
o It is better to collect the text book and consult the class lecture with the book.
o In no case what so ever, any makeup of semester final, midterm will not be offered. Missing any of
the above will earn zero mark for the student. In case of extreme unavoidable circumstances this
treatment would be applied
