Coolant Loss - External
Symptom Tree t020

This is symptom tree

Cause Correction

Check the coolant level. Refer to Section 
3 in the QSK45G and QSK60G 
Coolant level is above specification 
Generator Set Operation and 
Maintenance Manual, Bulletin 4021395. 

Inspect the engine for coolant leaking 
from hoses, draincocks, water manifold, 
jumper tubes, expansion and pipe plugs, 
fittings, radiator core, air compressor and 
cylinder head gaskets, lubricating oil 
External coolant leak 
cooler, water pump seal, cylinder block, 
and OEM-mounted components that 
have coolant flow. If necessary,
pressure-test the cooling system. Refer 
to Procedure 008-018. 

Radiator cap is not correct, is 
Check the radiator pressure cap. Refer to 
malfunctioning, or has low-pressure 
Procedure 008-047.

Cooling system is contaminated with dirt,  Clean the cooling system. Refer to 
scale, or sludge  Procedure 008-018.

Check the vent lines and the fill line for 
Fill line or vent lines are restricted, 
correct routing and for restriction. Refer 
obstructed, or not routed correctly 
to Procedure 008-017. 

Check the antifreeze concentration. 
Coolant is frozen due to incorrect  Refer to Section 8 in the QSK45G and 
antifreeze concentration  QSK60G Generator Set Operation and 
Maintenance Manual, Bulletin 4021395. 

Check for air or combustion gases in the 
Air or combustion gases are entering the 
cooling system. Refer to Procedure 008-
cooling system 
019.  

Refer to the Coolant Temperature Above 
Engine is overheating 
Normal symptom tree.
