DOMESTIC VIOLENCE Report
DOMESTIC VIOLENCE Report
Visiting to the school located near Wadgoan Maval was an amazing experience. The school
was located in the outskirts of village in a hilly area with a scenic view and a pleasant
environment. When we initially arrived at the school, the first thing I noticed was the
resourcefulness. Despite the school being small and having only three classrooms, the
facilities provided to the children was no less than any residential area school. There was
provision of mid day meals, and also a gym built for the children with all the equipments.
The students in the class were well mannered and respectful. The excitement and the
eagerness to learn something new could be clearly seen on their faces.
The topic of domestic violence was explained to the children in a two fold manner, where I
introduced them to the topic, explaining them the causes, the prevention and then a small skit
was performed by all the members to make them understand the topic more clearly.
INTRODUCTION
Domestic violence practiced in India is a serious problem. In India, the victims of domestic
violence are overwhelmingly women. one-third of women age 15-49 have experienced physical
violence and about 1 in 10 have experienced sexual violence. In total, 35 percent have
experienced physical or sexual violence. it can be seen that the ratio of violence against
men is less frequent comparatively.
The main cause of this is due to the mentality of people in society where male is being
considered superior to women and due to which women get exploited for reasons like
refusing to have sex with him, neglecting children, going out of home without telling the
partner, not cooking properly or on time, being more forward socially etc. not looking after
in-laws etc. violence can also happen due to forced marriages.
There are three main important laws that are designed to protect women in India.
In India, The ratio of violence on men is comparatively less than women. recently
there have been cases reported signalizing the increase in the rate of violence done
on men. But, lately males have reported incidences of assault against them like pushing,
shoving, slapping, grabbing, hitting which are intended to harm them and also take their lives
on many occasions. Recently, hundreds of husbands gathered in Chandigarh and Shimla to
voice their opinion for men’s rights and protection against domestic violence subjected to
them by their wives and other family members.
It reflects the need for a special law for curbing domestic violence against men as the issue
of domestic violence on men is not taken so seriously as women.
SUGGESTIONS
In order to put a stop to domestic violence, there need to be some steps required to be taken-
Educate the Community- Domestic violence occurs mainly due to the narrow minded
mentality where men are considered dominant to women. so by educating the society and
making them aware of what is right and wrong, the perception of the people towards society
can be changed.
AWARENESS- the people, specially the women who are the main victims of the society
need to be made aware of their rights and the legal actions which they can take in case of any
type of exploitation done to them.
