KOIE JANE T.

MONSANTO
SIX STEPS OF CURRICULUM DESIGN
ED-203

STEP 1
Principles and purpose - Setting out the intent of your curriculum by writing your own PRINCIPLE and
PHILOSOPHY based from the principle, philosophy, VMGO and Core Values of your institution.

My philosophy and principle will be based on the belief that education is a vital tool that can
teach students the necessary, essential and fundamental skills to become productive members of the
society. It will focus more on building genuine leadership, economic, communicative and political
skills . Also, it will instill among learners the moral foundation of being an individual and will build
among them the fear of God. I believe that when we train up a child in the way of the Lord we can
foresee a good future in our society.

Here is my example.

“ Leuteboro National High School, being a fortress of knowledge, believes in the holistic
development of its learner. It stands by its commitment to provide quality education through active
involvement in the teaching learning process, provision of equal opportunities to discover and
strengthen the students’ potential, involvement in society-building and inculcating values that will
build among them the fear of God.”

STEP 2
Breadth and balance-Developing the content of your curriculum.

My curriculum design will be a combination of social reconstructionist, child-centered and

integrated design. The approach will be eclectic. The curriculum is a merged reflection of the needs of
the society, interests of the learners and integration of subjects.
There will be seven years in elementary level, four years in junior high school, two years in
senior high school, two to three years in college depending on the course taken. Minor subjects on
the course that the learner will take up in college will be taught in senior high school to avoid
repetition of subjects in college.
Subject areas will be composed of English, Math, Science, Filipino, Economics, Good Manners
and Right Conduct, Christian Living, History, Sports, Music and Arts. There will be enhanced programs
for the following subject areas especially Sports, Music and Arts. Learning experiences must be
relevant to life.

STEP 3
Teaching Narrative --Planning the Delivery of your Curriculum
MY TEACHING NARRATIVE
1. Purpose of Teaching To produce learners that will be productive members of
the society
2. Learning goal for the students to have the necessary, essential and
fundamental skills to become productive members of the
society with moral standards
3. What constitute learning There will be synthesizing, remembering, describing,
applying, experimenting, analyzing, demonstrating,
observing and creating new knowledge in the teaching-
learning process.
4. Role of the Teacher “Guide in the stage not a sage.” The teacher will serve as
guide to help learners learn and reach their maximum
potential and find their place in the society as builders.

5. Class Environment It must be conducive to learning. The classroom has a

STEP
ratio of 30:1, for every 30 students there will be 1
4:
teacher. Classroom is equipped with gadgets necessary
for the teaching-learning process ex. Projectors, laptop,
wifi connectivity, etc. Class will be heterogenious.
6. Assessment and Critical There will be student evaluation and peer observation.
Evaluation Assessment for the school year will be composed of
periodical examinations and practicums.
7. Pedagogical Approaches Social Constructivism, a blend of teacher-guided and
student centered
