This document outlines the tasks and requirements for a hardware design project involving designing a digital dice circuit. Competitors must complete three tasks: 1) design a circuit that counts from 1 to 6 randomly and resets using a push button, with an LED that turns on when the counts match, 2) design a PCB layout that meets specified rules and includes labels and test points, and 3) assemble and test the circuit board. The output must include Gerber and drill files for fabrication along with a PDF with schematic, component views, PCB layers, and bill of materials.

HARDWARE DESIGN

INTRODUCTION
This Hardware Design Project will access each Competitor’s skill and capacity.
 Competitor can design a circuit of product based on the given schematic diagram and instruction.
 Competitor can use Circuit Wizard as a simulation tool only to validate the designed circuit.
 Competitor can only use Autodesk Eagle PCB Design Software tool to create one component in the
library and drawing a PCB under specified rules.
 Competitor can assemble, calibrate and put to work the designed product.

DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT & TASK

This project tests competitor competencies in hardware design and printed circuit board designs. The
competitors are required to design the project titled Digital Running Dice. The project is releasing two dice
to be thrown to generate a random number.

st
Task 1 (time limit: 1 hr, 1 day)
 Complete the circuit, therefore the preset counts is 1(0b0001) when the power is applied; and the
maximum count is bounded to 6 (0b0110), the count should reset to 1(0b0001) in this case.

 Complete the circuit, thus the LED (LED1) is switched ON when count 1 (IC6) is equal to count 2
(IC7)

Task 2 (time limit: 2.0 hrs, 1st day)

 Design the Printed Circuit Board (PCB) of the circuit.
 Minimum clearance: 0.2mm;
 Minimum via diameter: 1.27mm and 0,711mm hole;
 Board maximum size: 120x80mm;
 Board proportion: 3x2;
 Ground plane must be solid and shouldn’t have necks with less than 0.254mm;
o The circuit needs just one ground plane.
 The connectors and LED should keep near to the board outline, without any component between
them and the edge;
 The maximum number of jumpers is 3. More jumpers will deduce some points;
 In the circuit, it’s not necessary to use the rule 13 for any net;
 Put in the Top Overlay indications to +12V, -12V, 5V, ON pulse, OFF pulse and GND in the T Block
connectors.
 To the test point “TP…” keep the same annotate number as the answer schematics provided.
 There must be the province indication on the PCB.

Task3 (time limit: 1.5 hrs, 1st day)

 Assemble and test the assembled PCB. The two counters should count when the push button is
pressed and the LED must switch ON when the numbers are the same.
OUTPUT FILES
The competitor must create Gerber and NC drill files to fabrication and a single pdf containing the views and
BOM as requested bellow:
• Schematic Diagram
• Components bottom view sheet, showing:
• Mirrored board outline;
• Mirrored bottom overlay;
• Mirrored bottom solder;
• Mirrored holes.
• Bottom layer view sheet, showing:
• Mirrored board outline;
• Mirrored bottom layer;
• Mirrored holes.
• Bill of materials: (The BOM is not a separated file, it will be within the pdf file)
• Generated from Autodesk Eagle PCB Design Software.
