Johnny Dang was born as ‘Thanh’ in Dak Lak Province in Vietnam towards the end of the Vietnam war.
His father, who had been a soldier in the Vietnam war, escaped to Texas by boat where he later opened
a jewelry repair shop back in 1987. Dang together with his mother and siblings later moved to Texas to
re-unite with Dang’s father nine years later. While in Texas, he was quick to find out that the styles and
technologies used (and people’s general preferences) in jewelry were different from the ones he had
observed in Vietnam while growing up working alongside his father, which he did in order to help him
out with his business. According to Dang, jewelry is large especially in Hip-hop and the usage of gold
beats Vietnam by far. Johnny even recently revealed that much of the jewelry production in the United
States is much more automated and software driven, requiring strong technical skills compared to the
fine jewelry in Vietnam and Asia is often handcrafted, with jewelers setting stones manually. Dang had
to up his game and quickly teach himself how to use these new tools. To date, he makes sure that
together with his team, he remains updated with the latest advances in technology and processes—not
just for scalability, but to maintain the highest quality of work. 

Johnny founded his company, Johnny Dang & Co, which showcased his popularity in making custom
grills and active participation in the hip-hop scene. Having started as just a watch repair technician, Dang
was gradually realizing his dream of building the entertainment industry’s most influential jewelry
brand. Kevin Hart and Rick Ross are just two in a long list of many who have tasted his skill blended with
a touch of creativity and uniqueness. Might we also add that he made it to the Guinness book of World
Records because of his insanely beautiful 24k 5kg golden egg. The fortunes of Johnny Dang changed
when he met rapper and entrepreneur Paul Wall back when he was repairing jewelry in the flea market.
Paul was intrigued by Johnny’s abilities, especially in customizing grills which did not require filing of
teeth which was the trend by many grill ‘masters’ at the time. Riding on Wall’s network and insights of
the hip-hop industry, Johnny was ushered into the industry. It was literally curtains for Johnny and he
not going to disappoint neither Paul nor his clients. Perhaps that is how he has earned the title ‘King of
Bling’. From grills to diamond chains, his company is especially famous for being very versatile and
unfailing in delivering nothing short of top quality. Celebrities such as Gucci Mane, Chief Keef and Lil
Pump are so fond of him that they have mentioned him in their songs countless times. Not to mention
how they rock his jewelry in almost every performance. Through humility and hard work, he has shown
that a simple immigrant from Vietnam can rise from working in a flea market to work with the world’s
best artists and Celebrities-Kanye West, Niki Minaj and Cardi B and bring to live the American Dream. His
story continues to inspire many including those with no interest in Jewelry, as it reaffirms the truth that
no human is limited.

Much like a trusted barber or a fashion stylist, top rappers have preferred Johnny Dang as one of their
collaborators, and he has served them state-of-the-art jewelry that go beyond their wildest
imaginations. Johnny’s masterpieces are so icy that they would have a good at shot at reversing global
warming. In fact, just to demonstrate how long Johnny has been grinding it out, he made an appearance
on the red carpet before the start of the Third Ozone Awards at the George R Brown convention center
in 2008, which was more than a decade ago. Talk about resilience, focus, humility and excellence-and
you are basically taking about Johnny Dan-the jeweler from Houston! And it’s not just diamonds and
gold that Johnny knows how to handle. Earlier this year, he expressed his deep disappointment in Johny
Boy who had worked with him for almost two years and who he had promoted and trained to be his
right hand man, stole from him two watches and some cash, directing his clients to pay directly to his
account instead of that of the company. While commenting about this incident, he emphasized that
honesty is so critical in the business and that he views each of his employee as family. None of the staff
left behind the word family while describing Johnny when they were interviewed separately on a
different occasion. Johnny is indeed a leader on top of his top skills.
