Rallison Cable Derating Handbook

This document provides de-rating factors for extra-high voltage cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) cables installed in various configurations. It includes tables of rating factors for variations in ambient air temperature, ground temperature, depth of laying, soil thermal resistivity, and cable group formations for direct buried cables, cables in ducts, and cables in free air. The tables provide adjustment factors to the cables' current carrying capacity based on their installation conditions.

DE-RATING FACTORS FOR XLPE CABLES
About Us
Rallison began its journey in 1985 with a definite purpose – to offer safe and
customer-friendly electrical products that would give complete peace of mind to the
customers. Over the years, many more things have evolved – the most notable
among them has been the emergence of the brand Rallison, surely a force to
be reckoned with in contemporary electrical products.
It is the first cable industry accredited with PASS 99-2006 for Integrated Management
System, ISO 9001-2008 for Quality Management System, ISO 14001-2004 for
Environmental Management System & OHSAS 18001-2007 for Occupational Health
and Safety Management System from British Standards Institution.
Our quality management, teamwork, modern technology, dedicated quality
assurance, R&D & marketing efforts achieved the highest growth rate & helped to
confer “National Award” in 2003 for Quality Products from Hon’ble Vice President
Sh. Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, “The Cable Man of the Year Award” in 2007 for growth
from Governor of Haryana, Dr A. R. Kidwai and “Entrepreneurship Award” in 2009
from Hon’ble Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh to the Managing Director.
Today, Rallison is one of India’s largest and fastest growing cable companies.
Encouraged by the market response for quality products, our group has been
constantly upgrading its production facility by undertaking expansion-cum-
modernizing plans from time to time.
Rallison produces a variety of cables which include PVC/XLPE Power Cables, Control &
Instrumentation Cables, Airport Lighting Cables (5 KV), Mining Cables (Double Wire
Armoured), Screened Cables and Signaling Cables with HR/FR/FRLS/FS and Zero
Halogen properties for Power Stations , Airports , Refineries , Multi Storied Buildings
,Factories and Communication Network.
The company has developed Fire Survival Cables with Aluminum Conductor for the
first time in the world. These cables have been type-tested by CPRI, Bangalore. The
company has also developed Fire Survival Wires under ‘C’, ‘W’, ‘Z’ categories tested
from Building Research Establishment Ltd. (BRE Global), U. K. The group has a large
and strong workforce which includes technocrats, design and R&D engineers,
commercial and marketing professionals, having offices and resident engineers
spread throughout the country with a strong dealer/distributor network. Rallison has
a strong brand image and is popular among the approving authorities and is
approved by leading consultants like government dept., industries, corporate and
infra-clients such as NTPC, Airport Authority, Defence, BHEL, EIL, BSNL, PowerGrid etc.
It also has a wide customer base across the county. Rallison is one of the fastest-
growing groups with a clear vision to “Bring the Best” by not losing focus on the
challenges the new economics order the world over poses for growing companies.

Table 18 Group Rating Factors for Multi-Core Cables in Air on Perforated Trays

Notes
1. Factors apply to single layer groups of cables as shown above. Factors for cables installed in more than one layer touching each other will be significantly lower and must be determined by an appropriate
method.
2. Factors are given for vertical spacing between trays of 300 mm and at least 20 mm between trays and wall. For closer spacing, the factors should be reduced.

Table 19 Group Rating Factors for Multi-Core Cables in Air on Vertical Perforated Trays

Notes
Factors are given for horizontal spacing between trays of 225 mm with trays mounted back to back. For closer spacing the factors should be reduced
