CSS-111 Information Sheet No. 2 Subnetting

This document provides an example of how to subnet the IP address 192.168.10.0/24 to create 3 network IDs. It uses a subnet table to determine that a subnet mask of /26 would provide 4 subnets, with a network increment of 64 addresses each. This allows the creation of 3 network IDs - 192.168.10.0/26, 192.168.10.64/26, and 192.168.10.128/26 - with host address ranges of 1-62, 65-126, and 129-190 respectively. The document then asks the reader to complete a self-check exercise of subnetting 192.168.10.0/24 into 10 network IDs.

Subnetting

Example:

For the IP Address 192.168.10.0 /24, Provide 3 Network ID

192.168.10.0 /24
/24= 1111 1111 . 1111 1111 . 1111 1111. 0000 0000 which is equal to 255.2555.255.0

24
255
In order to create 3 Network ID use the subnet table below
#ofsubnet 1 2 4 8 16 32 64 128 256
#ofhost 256 128 64 32 16 8 4 2 1
SM /24 /25 /26 /27 /28 /29 /30 /31 /32
SM=subnet mask

Choose the 3rd column because it has 4 subnets that can provide 4 network ID and the problem needs 3 network ID
only, # of host will be the network increment, and the SM will be the new subnet mask of the 3 networks being
created.

# of subnets=4
Network increment=64
Subnet Mask= /26 = 1111 1111 . 1111 1111 . 1111 1111 . 1000 0000 = 255.255.255.192

for the IP Address 192.168.10.0 with a network increment of 64

Network ID Broadcast ID
192.160.10.0 192.168.10.63
192.168.10.64 3 networks ID 192.168.10.127
192.168.10.128 192.168.10.191
192.168.10.192

Host ID range
1st subnet= 192.168.10.1 to 62 IP Address with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.192
2nd subnet= 192.168.10.65 to 126 IP Address with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.192
3rd Subnet= 192.168.10.129 to 190 IP Address with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.192

SELF CHECK No. 2

Based on the example above for the IP Address 192.168.10.0 /24, provide 10 Network ID.(40pts)
