Touch pile load calculations for -2.0m dredged level

Calculation for 1m width of jetty( pressure diagram also given in pages)
( Refer attached annexure 1 and 2)
1) Earth pressure due to surcharge load of 5t/m2 : 0.3x 5 = 1.5 t/m2
2) Earth pressure from level +6.00m to 3.00m : 0.3x1.8x3 =1.62 t/m2
+3.00m to +0.00m : 0.3x0.8x3 = 0.72 t/m2
0.00m to -8.00m a): 5+ (1.62+0.72)/0.3 -2c=5+7.8-2x3= 6.8 t/m2
b): 1x0.8x8.0= 6.4 t/m2
Passive pressure -8.00m to -2.00m : 1x0.8x6+2c=4.8+2x1=6.8 t/m2
-p2-
Forces:
P1=1.5x6 = 9t
P2=6.8x8.0 = 54.4t
P3=1/2x1.62x3 = 2.43t

P4(a)=1.62x3= 4.86t

P4(b)=1/2x0.72x3 = 1.08t

P5=1/2x6.4x8.0 = 25.6t
P6= 1/2x6.8x6=20.4 t

Calculation of forces and moments:

F1+F2= 1.5x6 + 6.8x8.0 + 2.43 +4.86+1.08 + 25.6-20.4=76.97t
Taking moment @ F2,
F1x14.80= 25.6x10.33 + 6.8x8.0x9.0 + 1.08x4 + 4.86x3.5 + 2.43x1.0 + 1.5x5x5/2 -
1.5x1.0x0.5- 20.4x11.0
F1= 571.408/14.80 = 38.61 t
Therefore, F2= 38.36t

Calculation for Shear force Diagram:

Top level+ 6.0m
Shear @+5.0m where rock anchor is tied to capping beam:
Surcharge 5 t/m2
Hence Total Horizontal thrust @+5.0m due to surcharge:
=5x 0.3x1= 1.5t/m width.
Horizontal thrust due to fill @+5.0m= (1.8x0.3x1)/2= 0.27t
1) Hence, Shear @+5.0m=1.5+0.27=1.77t (This tries to push pile towards sea).
H of anchor = 38.36t, Hence @+5.0m, shear goes from +1.77 to (-38.36+1.77)=36.59t
-p3-

2) Shear @+3.0m:
Surcharge thrust up to +3.0m to +6.0m= 3x5x0.3= 4.5t/ m width
Fill thrust up to +3.0m= (3x1.8x0.3x3)/2= 2.43t
Hence, Shear @ +3.0m==4.5+2.43-38.36=-31.43t
3) Shear @0.00m, Thrust from +3.0 to 0.0m=(1.5+1.62)x3+ (0.72x3)/2
=9.36+1.08=10.44t
Hence, Shear @0.0m level= -31.43+10.44= -20.99t
4) Shear @-8.0m, Thrust from 0.00m to -8.0m=6.8x8+(6.4x8)/2 –(6.8x6)/2-17.16
=54.4+25.6-20.4-20.99=38.61 t
Shear to be transferred to rock=38.61t

Depth of embedment of pile=-4.5m to -10.5m=6.0m

Are resisting shear =6*1.2=7.2m2
Pressure on rock face=38.61/7.2=5.36 t/m2
This can easily be resisted by rock as a lateral thrust at that depth.

Design for Bending moment

Maximum Bending Moment= 38.61x6.718 –25.60x(6.718-4.47)-6.8x(6.718-
1.8)x(6.718-1.8)/2+20.4x(6.718- 3.8)
=179.129t-m for 1m c/c of pile
RCC piles are provided at every 2m and hence each RCC pile will take the lateral force
coming from 2m width of jetty.
For 2m c/c pile M= 358.258 tm
Consider pile diameter 1.2m,
Ast= fy/z
Ast= (358.258x1.85)/(5x0.78x1.2)= 141.619 cm2
% of steel= 2x144.54/11304=2.56%

Provide 32mm dia bars= 2x141.619/8.03= 35.27Nos say 36 Nos ( this is provided
from+1.29m to -6.75m) and 50% is provided for the balance stretch on either side.
-P4-

Cable strand calculation:

Lateral Force on 1m width of jetty= 38.36 tons = 383.60 KN
Inclined force in cable inclination 39 degree)= 383.60x 1.287 = 493.69 KN
As per IS 14268-2017,
Breaking strength of 12.7mm dia strand of class1= 160.10KN
=144.10 KN (90% of breaking strength)- working stress allowed in the cable for design
load(70% of breaking strength)
Force in cable placed at every 2m ( Behind RCC pile)=2x493.69Ton
Hence, No. of strands= [2x493.69/(144.1x0.7)]=9.78 say 10 nos

ANCHOR FORCE DUE TO BOLLARD PULL OF 50T

Assumed bollard pull

Horizontal component 50T @+6.25M
of rock anchor force H
@+5.5m

-8m rock

-9.8m ( Hinge @ 2/3 depth of socketing - assumed

-10.4m pile termination

-p5-

H= 50x 16.05/ 15.3 = 52.45 say 52.5 T

Force in anchor= H(1.287) (as it has 39 degree inclination)
=52.5 x 1.287 = 67.56 say 68 T

This 17 T will be taken by 4 anchors which are near the bollard.

Hence, extra strand required to take 17 T in each anchor for 4 anchors near each bollard.
This does not increase the bending moment in the pile (increase is negligible compared to-
8m for which pile has been designed). Hence, no change in pile design.

Extra Cable strands required in 4 nos of anchors behind each bollard for extra 17 t/ anchor
calculation:

Cable strand calculation:

Extra Force in cable due to bollard : 17 tons = 170 KN
As per IS 14268-2017,
Breaking strength of 12.7mm dia strand of class1= 160.10KN
=144.10 KN (90% of breaking strength) )- working stress allowed in the cable for
design load(70% of breaking strength)
Hence, No. of extra strands at bollard location= [170/(144.1x0.7)]=1.68 say 2 nos
-p6-

CALCULATIONS FOR BOND LENGTH IN ROCK

There are two types:
1. Anchor behind bollard location
2. Anchor at other stretches of jetty

Refer page 4 and 5 of design calculations where anchor for the above two types have
been computed.

A. Consider the case where there are no bollards behind:

Force in anchor= 2x 49.369=98.73 tons say 100 tons
Dia of grout in rock= 15 cm
Permissible stress between rock and grout = 4 Kg/sq.cm= 40T/sqm
Hence length required to resist 100T= 100/(3.14x0.15x40)=5.3m
Assume first one metre from clay bed where rock starts cannot be fully relied upon for
full bond strength.
Hence, anchor length required to required=5.3+1=6.3 say 7.0m
Check for bond between steel and grout :
Dia. Of wire 12.7mm, Bond stress= 7 kg/sq.cm= 70T/sqm
No. of strands=10 nos
Hence, force it can withstand=3.14x0.0127x10x6x70=167T > 100T

B. Case with bollards:

Anchor force to be developed= 117T ( Refer page5)
Bond length required=[117/(3.14x0.15x40)]+1= 6.2+1=7.2m. Say 8m
Provide 8m no. of strands 12 of 12.7mm wire.
Check for bond between steel and grout :
Bond force which can be permitted=3.14x0.0127x10x7x70= 195T > 117T OK.
