Business research is needed to a greater extent under a marketing orientation compared to a product orientation. It involves collecting data and information to aid decision making and the development and implementation of business strategies. The value of business research to managers is that it provides an objective basis for decisions. Researchers must decide when to conduct research based on conditions like the importance and complexity of the problem. Technology and globalization have increased the amount of data available and researchers now rely more on tools to analyze large international data sets. The scientific method involves objective, systematic processes for gathering and analyzing data.
