Toolbar Creator Instructions Beta 5 PDF
Toolbar Creator Instructions Beta 5 PDF
1) For those who’ve been testing a previous version of the beta, here are the most recent changes
(just read this, no need to read the rest of the file):
- If you have already customized toolbars, you don’t need to transfer everything. You can
just swap the file Your Toolbar.exe from the version you are using to the one in the
current download. Also, you’ll want to swap the file Files\General_Settings to the one in
the zip file. Also, from the zip file, you’ll want to copy the files
Files\Default\Copyright.rtf and Files\Default\Acknowledgement.rtf into your
Files\Default folder.
- Fixed: You can now set (on the Visibility tab) a hotkey to hide/show the toolbar.
- Modified: When a slider’s command is sent, the button now flashes to a black icon
instead of the flashy yellow icon in the previous beta. (Thanks to Azzart for the
suggestion.)
- Modified: When using four-way sliders, if you start mowing horizontally, the vertical
commands won’t be triggered if you get off track vertically. And vice versa. (Thanks to
Azzart for the suggestion.)
- Modified: I changed the code to remap the Surface Pro 3 buttons (top pen button single-
and double-click, Windows button, volume up/down buttons). Let me know if this
improves the reliability (someone reported that the Windows and pen buttons weren’t
remapped reliably in the previous version) or if I broke things that used to work (it
sounded like the volume up/down remaps were working correctly before). (Thanks to
Gary.M for reporting the problems.)
- If the toolbar is docked and the taskbar orientation is changed or the screen orientation
is changed, the toolbar docking will be adjusted automatically (by undocking then
redocking).
- Added: An info icon to explain what the ID of the main program is about (see second
tab of the options) (Thanks to surfaceproartist and Clint for the inquiring.)
- Added: A window for about/acknowledgements/copyright can now be shown from the
Options.
- Fixed: The docking options should now work properly
- Added: There is a new option where you can select a button on the toolbar that the
toolbar will collapse to whenever you are not using the toolbar. This is visibility Option
#9. Please not that when you replace the exe file, your toolbars’ settings files are not
updated so you will see the word “error” in the textbox for Option #9 until you actually
select a button.
- Added: For buttons, there are now presets to show the individual submenus (Taskbar
move, Windows Options, etc) (Thanks to surfaceproartist for the suggestion.)
- Modified: Changed the colors of the onscreen indicator for modifiers from green/red to
gray/black and changed the font size from 23 to 18. (Thanks to Azzart for the
suggestion.)
2) For those who are just starting to test with beta versions:
- This version doesn’t break the compatibility with the previous version 2.1 but it does
introduce many new, mostly user-requested, features.
- Read the changelog above.
- I suggest you read the changelog below to know what’s new. Also, you can just
carefully look at each tab of the Options and try things as you go along.
Changelog:
ICONS:
- Added: Possibility to use different image formats (bmp, gif, ico, jpg, png, tif) for the button
icon images. Previously, only .ico images were usable. See the “Active toolbar settings – 2” tab
of the Options. (Thanks to dream3 and surfaceproartist for the suggestion.)
- Added: Activated icons are also visible when right-clicking on the buttons. (Thanks to dream3
for the suggestion.)
SLIDERS:
IMPORTANT: Since many changes have been made to sliders, you will have to reprogram all
sliders that you are using in toolbars that were created with the previous version of Toolbar
Creator. Sorry!
- Added: When the commands are sent, the button now flashes black.
- Added: Four-way slider buttons have been added (see buttons of Type 6 in the customization
tab of the Options). (Thanks to Marty and Azzart for the suggestion.)
- Added: Each direction of a slider can be set to send its associated command repeatedly (like
before) or only once (new to this version). This is useful if you want to use sliders as four-way
buttons and are not interested in the “repeat” aspect. (Thanks to cleft and lluisllobera for the
suggestion).
- Added: Set each direction of a slider to be either a hotkey or preset. In the previous version, the
slider itself was set to be either for hotkeys or presets, but you couldn’t set it separately for each
direction.
- Added: Possibility to toggle modifiers (Alt, Ctrl, Shift, Space) with sliders (so that, for
example, you could set each direction of a four-way slider to toggle all four modifiers). (Thanks
to Marty for the suggestion.) This is probably better used when the slider buttons are set to send
the commands only once as mentioned in the previous point. If you want to keep track of which
modifier is pressed, you can use the on-screen indicator mentioned in the next point.
- Added: On Tab 2 of the Options, you can select to have an on-screen indicator appear
whenever the modifiers Alt, Ctrl, Shift or Space are held down. This may be useful to keep track
of which modifier is pressed.
MOUSE BUTTONS:
- Added: Added presets to send a single right- or middle-click at the position of the cursor. These
presets are called “Mouse Middle Click” and “Mouse Right Click”.
- Added: Functions to assign right and middle mouse buttons to toolbar buttons. These buttons
will make the pen act as if right and middle mouse buttons were pressed down, respectively. To
add these buttons, use Type 3 buttons in the Options’ customization tab. (Thanks to kozak79,
reloaded, Count Vertsalot and gekim84 for the suggestion and for testing a beta version)
- Added: There are now several visibility options for the toolbar. These options can be accessed
through the Options or through the main and tray menus. Visibility options include:
1) The toolbar is always visible (this was the only previously available option).
2) The toolbar is always visible but disappears when you draw through it (can be useful
when using art programs).
3) Middle-click shows/hides the toolbar.
4) Right-click shows/hides the toolbar.
5) Middle-click shows/hides the toolbar, and also the toolbar hides when you hit one of
its buttons
6) Right-click shows/hides the toolbar, and also the toolbar hides when you hit one of its
buttons
7) The toolbar is visible while middle-click is held down.
8) The transparency of the toolbar changes when the cursor moves away from it.
9) The toolbar collapses to one of its buttons when the cursor moves away from it.
10-13) The toolbar can be docked on any edge of the screen (kind of like the Windows
taskbar). When the toolbar is docked, other programs will be pushed off from the
toolbar’s space so that the toolbar won’t overlap with the program. For now, this option is
only available for toolbars of type 2 (i.e. the toolbars that you design on the designer
canvas). (Thanks to cleft for the suggestion.)
For options 3-7, you can set in the Options where the toolbar will appear in relation to the cursor.
- Added: When Toolbar Creator is started, you can set it to launch the default toolbar (like in
previous versions) or, as a new option, to show a toolbar selection menu. See the first tab of the
Options. (Thanks to gekim84 for the impetus to develop this further)
- Added: New drag-and-drop actions: When files and/or folders are dragged and dropped onto
the toolbar, you can set it to do nothing, to make copies of the files and folders, to send the files
and folders to the recycle bin. Alternatively, you can set it to create an always-on-top picture
holder (useful in art programs to “pin” a reference picture) when you drop an image file. See Tab
1 of the Options.
- Added: Presets where Alt/Ctrl/Shift/Space is held down after you press the toolbar button and
released as soon as the pen touches the screen again. Potentially useful, for example, for a quick
color picking or canvas moving in Photoshop. These presets are called “Release Alt”, “Release
Ctrl”, “Release Shift” and “Release Space”. (Thanks to Bubel and lluisllobera for the
suggestion.)
- Added: Same presets as in previous point, but adds right-click to the modifier. For example,
after pressing the toolbar button, Shift is held down and the next time you click on the screen a
right-click will be sent followed by the release of Shift. This is useful, for example, in Photoshop
to access the Shift+right-click edit menu and Space+right-click size menu. These presets are
called “Release Alt Right Click”, “Release Ctrl Right Click”, “Release Shift Right Click” and
“Release Space Right Click”.
SURFACE PRO 3:
- Added: Since many Toolbar Creator users are Surface Pro 3 owners, I have added a tab in the
options to remap
- the single click and double-click actions of the Surface Pro 3’s top pen button
- the capacitive Windows button (you can also disable it)
- the Volume Up and Down buttons
(Thanks for Kumabjorn for testing this out).
ART PROGRAMS:
- Added: For the Photoshop users, the list of tools that are interconnected (i.e. these buttons are
“aware” of each other and will toggle each other’s icons) has been extended and now includes
Brush, Clone, Crop, Dodge, Drag, Eraser, Fill, Healing, History, Lasso, Line, Marquee, Move,
Pen, Rotate, Ruler, Text, Wand, Zoom. These are in the Type 5 presets under the names
“Photoshop Tool Name_of_Tool”. (Thanks to dream3 and lluisllobera for the suggestion.)
- Added: Opacity options for art programs for which the opacity can be set by simply pressing
numbers (tested in Photoshop CS5 and CS6). Two new menus have been added that allow setting
the opacity from 10 to 100% by sending numbers 1-10 or 1-0. These menus can be set to show in
the main menu or used as presets (Type 5) on buttons.
Added: - Four new slider buttons have been added as presets (Type 5) that make it possible to set
the opacity from 10-100% (10 steps) or more precisely from 1-100% (100 steps). (Thanks to
reloaded and amphiblien for the suggestion.)
- Added: A much improved predefined command (labeled “Photoshop Tool Resize 2”) to resize
the tool in Photoshop CS 6 that now works exactly as previously asked by several users: click the
toolbar button (that has been set to type 5 in the Options) then move the pen on the canvas from
left to right to resize the tool. (Thanks to dream3 and stoneseeker for the suggestion.)
- Added: Presets for Mari (and other programs I guess). This is useful, for example, to show the
color picker under the cursor (which would usually be obtained by pressing and holding down j).
Click on the toolbar button once and the hotkey will be pressed and maintained the next time you
click on the canvas. Press the toolbar button again to release the hotkey. The hotkeys can be set if
you set the button to Type 3 and select the Mari Hotkey preset. (Thanks to miko3d and thewish
for the suggestion and explanations.)
- Added: Cool stuff! On the “Active toolbar settings – 2” tab of the Options, you can select an
option that will make art program panels (for example, any Photoshop hovering panel) disappear
when you draw through them. See this YouTube video for an example with Photoshop (note that
without this script, the Photoshop panels do not move away when you draw through them):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jGol44rQgvo&feature=youtu.be
The list of supported art program is limited for now (see Options) but just ask me if you would
like to add more art programs (and we’ll see if it’s possible).
OTHERS:
- Added: A hotkey can be set to show/hide the toolbar. See first tab of the Options.
- Added: Can now select between two sets of icons for the menus. The second set was provided
by kozak79 (thanks a lot!) and will display better on high-res screens. See the “Main menu” tab
in the Options.
- Added: A preset to lock the computer. (Thanks to lluisllobera for the suggestion.)
- Added: A preset to show the on the buttons all the different submenus that were previously
only available through the main and tray menus. Look for the presets that start with “Show
menu”. (Thanks to surfaceproartist for the suggestion.)
- Added: When the Options are launched, one of two images will be shown randomly. (Thanks to
kozak79 for providing the second image. Others are welcome to send me more images!)
- Added: Multiple on screen messages to let the user know about delays when switching toolbars,
closing windows, etc.
- Fixed: The toolbar should now run by default under Admin rights. This is the first time I try
this so report here if you encounter any problems. (Thanks to Marty and gekim84 for reporting
about Admin rights issues with Photoshop CC and ZBrush, respectively.)
- Fixed: The toolbar rollup preset has been modified to collapse the toolbar to the rollup button.
- Fixed: The toolbar was not visible (as expected) when the transparency was set to very low. A
warning was added to prevent the confusion.
- Fixed: The rollup toolbar preset didn’t work properly and didn’t completely collapse the toolbar
into a single button. (Thanks to surfaceproartist for reporting.)
- Fixed: As requested twice by e-mail, I re-added the two Photoshop toolbars that were present
before version 2.0 of Toolbar Creator.
- Fixed: An error message appeared when the default toolbar did not exist.
- Fixed: An error message appeared when the main, tray or shortcuts menus had zero items.
- Fixed: An error message appeared when the tray icon image didn’t exist.
- Fixed: If the image for a button wasn’t found, the button was unusable. Now, if the image for a
button isn’t found, a red image will be loaded until the user assigns an existing image in the
Options.
- Fixed: An error message appeared if a nonexisting toolbar was selected through the toolbar
selection menu.
- Fixed: Corrected numerous typos and a few functional bugs, and changed quite a bit of text
here and there.
- Fixed: Problems would occur when the name of a toolbar (rename/clone/design) was left blank.
- Fixed: A bug where text files to manage power plans (when using the preset to show a menu of
power plans) were not deleted properly.
- Modified: For selecting tabs in the Options, replaced the buggy treeview list with buttons.
- Modified: Decreased the size of the toolbar designer window so that it doesn’t occupy as much
screen space.
- Modified: Changed the format of some image files from .bmp to .ico.
- Modified: An important internal change was made to make it possible to use multiple instances
of Toolbar Creator at the same time. To use multiple instances, you need to have multiple
separate copies of the whole Toolbar Creator folder (that you rename aby way you want).
- Modified: The location of the toolbars various images (not the button icons) was modified to
leave only the button icons in the main image folder. If you had previously replaced some of the
menu icons with your own menu icons, you will now need to place your menu icons in the
Files\Images\System subfolder. (Thanks to kozak79 for the comment about the difficulty of
figuring out which icons could be eliminated.)
- Fixed: When renaming the default toolbar, the text in the Options window wouldn’t update
properly.
- Modified: Location of the tray icon images is now in the Files\Images\Tray_Icon subfolder
