Learning Activity Sheets in Understanding Culture, Society, & Politics 12

This document contains learning activity sheets about human evolution, culture, society, and politics for Marao National High School students. It includes 7 activities to trace human biological and cultural evolution through time. Students are asked to imagine themselves as archaeologists, analyze and interpret pictures of human evolution, complete an agree/disagree matrix about statements related to evolution, and identify physical markers of hominins in an illustration. The goal is for students to understand how humans and the environment have evolved and the role of natural selection.

(CORE SUBJECT)
Name of Learner: _____________________________________ Barangay: _____________________
Grade & Section: ______________________________________ Date: _________________________
TRACING HUMAN EVOLUTION AND SOCIOCULTURAL AND POLITICAL
TRANSFORMATIONS
QUARTER 1 – WEEK 3
General Reminders:
1. Make use of these learning activity sheets to enhance learning.
2. Use this activity sheets with CARE.
3. Read the directions carefully before doing each task.
4. Let your parents/guardian return this activity sheet to the agreed place once you’re done with it.
5. Always practice IATF protocols at all times.

Objectives
Explain the biological evolution of humans based on the fossil records. Infer the capacity of early humans
for culture and Identify major fossil groups.
Competency
Trace the biological and cultural evolution of early to modern human.

Activity 1. Imagining Yourself

Imagine yourself as archeologist or anthropologist. Read the paragraph below:
The earth contains many buried objects from the prehistoric past. Finding and interpreting these objects
require training. Assume that you are an archeologist or an anthropologist looking for evidence of
material remains of the prehistoric past as well as other evidence of human activity.

Answer these questions:

What specific evidence will you

look for?

What material evidence will you be

interested to know and learn about?

What technology will you use?

Activity 2. Talking Pictures

In this activity, you will demonstrate your prior knowledge of human evolution by analyzing and
interpreting the pictures below. After learning about the topics, you will reevaluate your prior knowledge of
human evolution by reviewing your initial interpretation of the drawings.

Talking Pictures. Study the human evolution pictures and write down your thoughts about on we evolved
by answering the following questions.

How did human and cultural

evolution take place?

In what ways were human and

cultural evolution studied?

Who studies human and cultural

evolution?

Why is it important to know how

humans evolved biologically and
culturally?

FIRM UP!

What is evolution?

In science, why is evolution

considered a theory and a fact?

Why is it important to study fossil

remains to know how humans and
the environment on which they live
evolve?

In what way can fossil remains be

found and studied?

Activity 3. Agree/Disagree Matrix

This activity aims to know how you react to the facts and theories discussed in the lesson. Read each
statement and decide whether you agree or disagree with it. Put an x in the column of your answer. Provide
a brief explanation for your choice of answer.
AGREE STATEMENTS DISAGREE
Characteristics of life forms are
immutable and could not change.

Explanation for past events should

be sought in the long-term action of
ordinary geological forces that still
operate today.
Evolution works as the process of
natural selection takes advantage of
the variety that is already present in
a population.

Evolution through natural selection

continues today.

Human populations adapt

genetically in response to
environmental forces.

Process Questions
How does natural selection work?

How does the study of genetics explain the process of natural selection?

Activity 7. Idea Wheel

The learners are expected to infer the meaning behind the drawings or pictures that suggest the human
attributes or markers of humanity in this activity. Identify the physical markers of hominins as suggested in
the illustration provided in the areas circle A. Explain these characteristics in circle B.
Process Questions
What are the traits shared by hominids?

What is the role of natural selection in the development of these traits?

What advantages might have been given by an increase in brains size?
