Method of Statement For Remedial Work: 1. General Description

This document provides a method statement for conducting remedial concrete work to address severe honeycombing problems in structural elements. It outlines the materials needed, including different types of grout for small and large honeycomb areas. The construction procedures include identifying defects, removing loose concrete, cleaning surfaces, applying a bonding agent, and filling honeycomb areas with the appropriate grout. Curing compound is then applied after grout has been placed.

Method Of Statement For Remedial Work

1. General Description

This method statement is to describe the methodology for concrete remedial work of severe
honeycombs problem for all structure elements.

2. Reference

2.1 Material & Workmanship section 230 concrete and reinforcement

2.2 Material & Workmanship section 234 formwork & surface finish

3. Materials

3.1 Timber formwork -Concrete casting mould

3.2 Sika grout-215 -Material to fill/patch inside light honeycomb
3.3 Sika Microcrete-2000 -Material to fill inside large volume honeycomb
3.4 Sika Monotop-610MY -Bonding agent to be applied on surface prior pouring of grout
3.4 AZSB curing agent -Curing compound

4. Tools / Equipment

4.1 Grout injector pump -To inject grout into honeycomb

4.2 Electric hacker -To remove loose particles
4.3 wire steel brush -To remove particles and surface contaminants

5. Construction Procedures

5.1 Defect Identification

a) Prior to commencement of any rectification works, joint inspection shall be carried out to
Identify the extent of unacceptable works where defects have occurred.

b) The unacceptable portion shall be recorded and marked out on structure for further action.

c) The defect classification and material to be used for rectification works are as per table
below.

Item Defect Classification Material

1 Honeycomb - Small area and rebar expose SikaGrout-215
2 Honeycomb - Large area and rebar expose Sika Microcrete-2000
5.2 Rectification Method

a) Remove and hack all loose concrete areas by hammer or electrical hacker until sound
substrate.

b) Clean the hacked area with water or compressor to remove dusts and debris after the
surface been brush using wire steel brush. Surface must be sound, clean, free from frost and
all loosely adhering particles and other surface contaminants.

c) Formwork shall be prepared in the identified area according to structure profile. Sponge
must be surrounded along the perimeter of formwork where necessary, it shall be grout
tight and will not deform and deflect.

d) A coat of bonding agent Sika monotop – 610MY shall be applied on the identified surface
that well saturated with clean water and free from any surface water or puddles. This is
followed immediately with a wet on wet application of the sikagrout-215 for small area and
Sika Microcrete-2000 for large area.

e) The grout shall be mixed properly and use approved pouring technique as recommended
by the manufacturer.

f) Curing compound shall be applied to the surface or immediately after removal of the
formwork.
