Control Systems Lab: Submitted by

This lab report summarizes experiments with PID control and lead compensation in MATLAB. The objectives were to study lead compensation and design a PID controller to reduce steady-state error. Procedures involved setting up a unity feedback system in MATLAB, analyzing the uncompensated step response, and adding PD and PID control. Lead compensation was added by placing a pole and zero, improving the transient response. The learning outcomes were getting familiar with MATLAB's SISO Design Tool and seeing how PID control minimizes steady-state error and improves transients compared to the uncompensated system.

Lab No 12
PID Controller
1. Objectives:
 To perform a trade-off study for lead compensation.
 To design a PID controller and see its effect upon steady-state error

2. Procedures:
 Using MATLAB’s SISO Design Tool, set up a negative unity feedback system with.
1
G(s¿=
s ( s+6 ) (s +10)
Code:

 Which provides us an un compensated system i.e.

 Step response of this system after adding 20% overshoot.

 Now adding a differentiator by adding PD controller we get.

 Effect on transient response after compensation is obtained after adding both pole and zero and
moving them to desired output providing location.

 Its step response would be

 The gain observed at our desired %OS and settling time response is .
Learning Outcomes:
 We were able familiarize ourselves with MATLAB’s SISO Design Tool.
 We saw PID controller minimize our steady state error and also improve our transient response.
