“B’laan tribe”

B’laan tribe are the tribal community of Southern Mindanao, the name of this
indigenous groups comes from the words Bla and An, meaning “Opponent People”.
They are residing in South Cotabato were renowned hunters and food gathers, they
hunted wild animals and were reaping grains, root crops, fruit and herbs in the once
vast open space of cogonal land, known as Kolon Datal, nowadays Koronadal City.

B’laan was known as the unique indigenous tribe in the Mindanao and also they
have their own culture to preserve in the modern day. They have their belief in the
supremacy of the great Creator named Melu or D’wata, who is the source of everything.
They are famous for their rich and colorful heritage, ethnic art and handicrafts like the
ornaments and traditional beadworks. Colourful native costumes made from abaca and
decorated with embroidery, buttons, beads and heavy brass belts with numerous tiny
bells. This kind of culture should be preserve for the next generation and they represent
how Mindanao were so artististics.

Therefore the tribe was known as one of the indigenous who residing Mindanao
in early period. They have their unique cultures that should be preserved and they
respect all the things around them. They performed rituals as the symbols of their
respect and acknowledgement for their God.

“Manobo Tribe”

Manobo simply means “people” or “person”; alternate names include Manuvu

and Minuvu. The term may have originated from “Mansuba,” a combination of man
(people) and suba (river). Manobos are concentrated in Agusan, Bukidnon, Cotabato,
Davao, Misamis Oriental, and Surigao Del Sur. It was reported by the last group, the
Manobo usually build their villages near small bodies of water or forest clearings,
although they also opt for hillsides, rivers, valleys, and plateaus.

This tribe speaks language that belonging to the Manobo family. As I read this
report, somehow I manage to understand how they act according to their culture. The
Manobo cluster includes eight groups: the Cotabato Manobo, Agusan Manobo,
Dibabawon Manobo, Matig Salug Manobo, Sarangani Manobo, Manobo of Western
Bukidnon, Obo Manobo, and Tagabawa Manobo and this groups were often to
connected by name in political landforms. Their culture is very different to other culture,
they believed the unseen spirit who intrude the human body to do their desires. I am
quite amazed how this tribe live in the Mindanao and how could they survived for how
many years.

Manobo tribe for me is really knowledgeable it is because they share their culture
to all and also preserve it until now. The Manabo are residing in different places here in
Mindanao and they also affected to the changes of the world but still they are not that
threatened because they teach their youth to preserve their culture even if the world
change. They are one of the lowest tribe here in Mindanao but still they are not
ashamed of their own culture. Every one of us has a different culture and we should
respect it the way we respect ours.
