Proposal

Title of production: Fixated

Concept:
The concept of my short film is to tell the story of a stalker but rather than showing it from
the victims point of view, we see it from the stalkers and how it controls their life and
impacts them. As this is a silent film, I am hoping to convey emotions through framing and
lighting. As well as keeping the audience on their toes as many said they liked suspense.

Why are you producing this production?


I am creating “Fixated” because after receiving my feedback from my surveys and Focus
Groups that I did with 40-60 year olds, I found out the type of shows and films they that are
into and typical genres they watch. Thriller was the top genre within my target audience so
immediately knew this was the genre to go into, this was particularly helpful as this is also a
silent film and the thriller genre left me a lot of opportunity to experiment with my
cinematography as this is what the audience will be reliant on without any dialogue.

My target audience is 40-60 year olds

What they want to see:


From my responses, I found out that the audience want to feel the suspense and tension but
would rather not see any specific violence however, it can be implied. This was particularly
important for me to take note of as obviously the stalker has to take it somewhere, my whole

film can’t just be following someone through the eyes of the stalker. I decided to make my
piece include no violence or even suggested violence between the two characters as I
wanted to engage with the most amount of people possible.

I was told by multiple people that my piece had a similar feel to “Gone Girl” and “Killing
Eve.” They seemed to be quite enthusiastic about it so I am going
to try and keep the tone very similar to both.

What you are creating based from that research:

From my research, I am creating a silent short


thriller film about how stalking has taken over the
life of my main character.
My aims are to make the audience feel suspenseful
but also to make the audience feel sympathy for the
stalker as this isn’t something I feel has been done before.

Where the production will be aired (why – based on target audience)

The production will be aired on Youtube.

This is because in a survey I carried out, the most common answer I got for viewing
platforms that they used, Youtube was in the lead by over 90%.
