UL Conventional Sounder Connections

The document discusses different scenarios for connecting UL fire alarm sounders and their power supplies. It describes: 1) Connecting all sounders directly to the fire alarm panel, which has 4 sounder circuits that can each support up to 750mA of load. 2) Connecting each sounder through an individual relay module, with power supplied from the fire alarm panel. This allows programming sounds by zone. 3) Connecting sounders through relay modules, but powering them using a 4-way sounder module mounted in the loop, saving on home run cabling back to the panel. Each output supports up to 400mA. 4) Connecting sounders through relay modules, but power

UL Fire Alarm - Sounder Design

Loop Cable
Cable from NAC output

Scenario - 1
UL Sounders connected is not required to sound in a logical manner as per zones & power supply to the sounders need to be only from panel,
where each sounder zone maximum load of 750mA can be loaded
Action
In this type of requirement, we can connect all the sounders from the panel sounder circuit & all sounders connected to the particular circuit will
sound at a time as per the above requirement
There are totally 4 sounder circuit in each UL panel with 750mA per circuit (Load the sounder circuit only with max of 750mA)
Each sounder circuit can be programmed to have different activating format as per UL standards
At the last of every sounder circuit, need to use the End of Line Resistor for cable monitoring.
Loop Cable
Cable from Aux Power output (24VDC)
Sounder to Relay Module cable

Scenario - 2
UL Sounders connected is required to sound in a logical manner as per zones programmed in the cause and effect logic & power supply to the
sounders need to be only from panel
Action
In this type of requirement, we need to connect all the sounders through individual relay module and supply to these sounders are drawn from
panel & connected through the module. This will enable us to program individual sounder for any kind of cause & effect as mentioned in the above
requirement
You can connect total of 1A load on the auxiliary power supply output
Loop Cable
Cable from 4-way Sounder Module
Sounder to Relay Module cable

Scenario - 3
UL Sounders connected is required to sound in a logical manner as per zones programmed in the cause and effect logic & power supply to the
sounders need not to be from panel, can be at the field saving the home run cable.
Action
In this type of requirement, we need to connect all the sounders through individual relay module and supply to these sounders are drawn from 4-
way sounder module mounted on the loop & connected through the module. This will enable us to program individual sounder for any kind of
cause & effect as mentioned in the above requirement
You can connect total of 400mA load on every sounder output of the 4-way sounder module.
Local
PSU

Loop Cable
Cable from power supply
Sounder to Relay Module cable

Scenario - 4
UL Sounders connected is required to sound in a logical manner as per zones programmed in the cause and effect logic & power supply to the
sounders need not to be from panel, can be at the field saving the home run cable.
Action

In this type of requirement, we need to connect all the sounders through individual relay module and supply to these sounders are drawn from local
power supply unit (locally powered & has battery backup) & connected through the UCMOM-S module. This will enable us to program individual
sounder for any kind of cause & effect as mentioned in the above requirement. Each ULMCOMS can handle 30VDC/ 1Amps
Ensure you connect only the load that can withstand by the local PSU (calculate assuming all sounders are sounding during an alarm)
Note:- You need to use ULMCOM-S only and not ULMCOM
