Endocrine System: 20. Secretion of Thyroid Gland

The thyroid gland secretes thyroxine at 93% and triiodothyronine at 7%. Signs of hyperthyroidism include weight loss, tachycardia, atrial fibrillation, and goiter. Parathyroid hormone raises blood calcium levels by stimulating calcium release from bone, intestines, and kidneys. Primary hyperparathyroidism is due to autonomous hypersecretion of PTH by the parathyroid gland. The adrenal glands are retroperitoneal organs located near the upper poles of the kidneys.
