Q. 1 Evaluate the concept of Total Quality Management keep in view various


organizations. Critically discuss the tools and techniques of Total Quality
Management for services organization in detail. (20)

Q. 2 Explain the position of leadership in Total Quality Management. Critically discuss


the characteristics of an effective leader regarding the ensuring quality of daily
usage products in the present economic circumstances. (20)

Q. 3 Explain the customers’ perception regarding quality. Discuss the measures to be


taken by a manufacturing organization to handle customers’ complaints in order to
retain them. (20)

Q. 4 Explain the concept of problem in continuous process improvement? Discuss the


different methods of problem solving in detail. Which one is better in your view?
Explain with examples. (20)

Q. 5 Discuss the concept of ethics in Total Quality Management. Critically evaluate the
relationship and differences between total quality management and re-engineering
in detail. (20)

GUIDELINES FOR ASSIGNMENT No. 1


You should look upon the assignments as a test of knowledge, management skills, and
communication skills. When you write an assignment answer, you are indicating your
knowledge to the teacher:
 Your level of understanding of the subject;
 How clearly you think;
 How well you can reflect on your knowledge and experience;

 How well you can use your knowledge in solving problems, explaining
situations, and describing organizations and management;
 How professional you are, and how much care and attention you give to what
you do. To answer a question effectively, address the question directly, bring
important related issues into the discussion, refer to sources, and indicate how
principles from the course materials apply. The student must also be able to
identify important problems and implications arising from the answer.
For citing references, writing bibliographies, and formatting the assignment, APA format
should be followed. Guidelines regarding APA format is available in the Internship
manual of MBA program (http://www.aiou.edu.pklDownloads/manual.pdf).

ASSIGNMENT No. 2

This assignment is a research-oriented activity. You are required to obtain information


from a business/commercial organization and prepare a report of about 1000 words on
the issue allotted to you to be submitted to your teacher for evaluation.
You are required to select one of the following issues according to the last digit of
your roll number. For example, if your roll number is P-3427186 then you will select
issue No. 6 (the last digit):
Issues:
1. The employees’ involvement is one of the basic tools for continuous quality
improvement process. You are required to study a banking organization and find
out the benefits of empowering the employees to continue the quality improvement
in the organization.
2. Hearzberg’s Two Factor Theory is one of the motivation theories. Students are
required to study and analyze a manufacturing organization and find out its result
regarding motivation of employees in the prospective of TQM.
3. Quality by design is one of the key principles of TQM. Students are required to
study this principle and find out its benefits regarding continues quality
improvement on financial sector.
4. Pareto analysis is done to determine opportunities for quality improvement.
Students are required to analyze financial sector organization.
5. Organizational structure shows communication flow in the organization presented
through communication models to clarify the information path. Students are
required to study a communication model for traditional organization in the
prospective of total quality management.
6. Toll-Free telephone numbers are effective tool used for receiving customers’
feedback. Students are required to study a manufacturing organization do this
practice for the quality improvement of their products.
7 AT & T’s 12-Steps process is tool of benchmarking. You are required to study this
approach and find out its applicability on telephone industry.
8. ISO certification is must for every organization in this competitive period. You are
required to study a business organization and find out the causes and advantages of
ISO certification on textile sector in the present circumstances.
9. Quality Functions Development Process is planning tool. Students are required to
study QFD process of nonprofit organization.
0. Continuous process improvement cycle is a significant tool of TQM. Students are
required to study this cycle of telephone industry.

Guidelines for Assignment No. 2:
· 1.5 line spacing
· Use headers and subheads throughout all sections
· Organization of ideas
· Writing skills (spelling, grammar, punctuation)
· Professionalism (readability and general appearance)
· Do more than repeat the text
· Express a point of view and defend it.
Workshop
The workshop presentations provide you opportunity to express your communication
skills, knowledge and understanding of concepts learned during practical study assigned
in assignment No. 2.

You should use transparencies and any other material for effective presentation.
The transparencies are not the presentation, but only a tool; the presentation is the
combination of the transparencies and your speech. Write your name and roll number on
every transparency. Workshop presentation transparencies should only be in typed format.

The transparencies should follow the following format:


1. Title page
2. An abstract (one-page summary of the paper)
3. Introduction to the issue (brief history & significance of issue assigned)
4. Practical study of the organization (with respect to the issue)
5. Data collection methods
6. SWOT analysis (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities & threats) relevant to the
issue assigned.

8. Recommendations (specific recommendations relevant to issue assigned)

GUIDELINES FOR WORKSHOP PRESENTATION:


· Make eye contact and react to the audience. Don't read from the transparencies or
from report, and don't look too much at the transparencies (occasional glances are
acceptable to help in recalling the topic to cover).
· A 15-minute presentation can be practiced several times in advance, so do that until
you are confident enough. Some people also use a mirror when rehearsing as a
substitute for an audience.

Weightage of Theory & Practical Aspects in Assignment No. 2 and Workshop
Presentations:
Assignment No. 2 and workshop presentations are evaluated on the basis of theory and its
applicability. The weightage of each aspect would be:
Theory: 60%
Applicability (practical study of the organization): 40%
