SPECIFICATION

PIPES AND FLANGES

1. Scope
This specification describes requirements for procurements of pipes and flanges. Pipes are
intended to replace the secondary cooling circuit piping at the reactor. Flanges are intended
for connecting separate sections of pipes, valves, pumps, and accessories.
This specification was developed for the IAEA Project UZB/1/005 “Strengthening the nuclear
safety of the WWR-SM research reactor at the Institute of Nuclear Physics of Academy of
Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan” for the next stage of modernization of the secondary
cooling circuit system of the WWR-SM research reactor.

2. Applicable Documents
The following ISO Standards (or equivalent) shall be applicable for this Specification to the
extent specified hereinafter:

• ISO Standards catalogue 23.040.60 - Flanges, couplings and joints

• ISO Standards catalogue 23.040.10 - Iron and steel pipes
• ASME B31 Piping Codes (or equivalent)

In the event of conflict between the documents listed above and the content of this
Specification, the content of this Specification shall take precedence to the extent of the
conflict.

3. Definitions, Acronyms, and Abbreviations

The following definitions, acronyms, and abbreviations shall apply throughout this
Specification unless defined otherwise hereinafter:
API American Petroleum Institute
DIN Deutsches Institut für Normung (German Standard)
DN Nominal Diameter
ISO International Standards Organization
PN Nominal Pressure
QC Quality Control

4. Requirements
4.1. Functional and Performance Requirements
• Working fluid: overheated water (industrial water);
• Maximum pressure: 6.4 MPa;
• Maximum temperature range: -50 to 450°С.

4.2. Technical Requirements

The pipes and flanges shall meet the following technical requirements:
All piping materials shall be: Carbon steel, according to API 5L, Grade B; with anti-corrosion
coating for underground layout.
Dimensions and quantities shall be the following:

No. Description/Specification Quantity

DN 500 pipe (DIN 2448 or DIN 2458) Length: 330 m
1 Wall thickness: 8 mm;
Maximum internal wall roughness: 0.1 mm
2 DN 250 plain flange (DIN 2576 PN 10) 24 pcs
3 DN 300 plain flange (DIN 2576 PN 10) 40 pcs
4 DN 500 plain flange (DIN 2576 PN 10) 24 pcs
DN 100 pipe (DIN 2448 seamless) Length: 160 m
5 Wall thickness: 5 mm;
Inner wall roughness: max. 0.1 mm

5. Marking
Marking shall include size of the pipe (flange), steel grade, trademark and manufacturer’s
name. Marking of the pipe (flange) shall additionally contain:
• designation of standard number or technological normative documentation;
• pipe (flange) number;
• batch or melting number;
• wall thickness;
• stamp of the technical control department.
Designation of the standard or technological normative documentation is allowed to be
applied with paint, which should not be sticky and washable.
Marking of a pipe shall be applied by stamping, an electric pencil, a rubber stamp (indelible
paint), or an electrograph.
Items shall have all safety markings in English and Russian languages.

6. Packing
The items for the shipment to the End-User, shall be packed in accordance with international
standards that are applicable for the shipment of this kind of equipment.
Each tube (flanges) shall be packed in polyethylene film, or in paper, placed in wooden or
metal containers. Packing of pipes (flanges) shall not allow movement inside the packaging,
contamination, internal surface damage, or shape change.

Transport marking is carried out with the application of manipulation marks and the
manufacturer's indication, including gross and net weight, alloy grade, melting number (lot),
pipe (flange) nominal diameter, and address.

7. Transportation and storage

Pipes (flanges) in a packed form can be transported by all modes of transport. During
transportation, pipes must be protected from mechanical damage, moisture and exposure to
active chemicals. Transportation of pipes (flanges) must be carried out in accordance with the
best practices for the transport of this type of goods.

8. Quality Requirements
The manufacturer shall have a valid ISO 9001 certification and applicable quality assurance
system in place. The manufacturer shall document the compliance of the pipes and flanges
with this quality assurance system through a quality certificate to be submitted with the items.

9. Testing and Acceptance

Acceptance and delivery of pipes (flanges) must be performed in batches. Each batch shall
comprise pipes (flanges) of the same diameter, and length/size.
Testing must be carried out by the manufacturer according to its own quality control protocols
and the minimum requirements defined in this document.
Each batch of steel pipes (flanges) must be accompanied by a quality document containing:
• Trademark and manufacturer’s name;
• Order number;
• Hydraulic testing and QC certificate.

All documentation provided must be in English and Russian languages, except for certificates.

10. Installation and Training

The End-user shall carry out installation of pipelines with flanges, and their testing.
No training is required.
