Time Frame: 1hour

The Tango

I. OBJECTIVES

1. Describe the brief historical background, dance characteristics, style and music of the tango.

2. Identify proper rhythm and basic dance steps of the Tango.

3. Perform the basic dance steps properly and in time with the music.

4. Enhance social behavior and personality through social dancing.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

Topic: The Tango

Reference: Enjoy Life with P.E and Health IV

Materials: laptop, speakers, LCD projector

III. PROCEDURE

A. Introductory Activities

1. Prayer

2. Checking of Attendance

B. Motivation

The teacher will show a picture or illustration of a couple dancing the Tango. Ask
students to observe the posture, style, basic hold, and costume. Let the students analyze the
picture. Ask the following questions:

1. What can you say about the picture?

2. What do you think is the kind of social or ballroom dance represented in the picture?

3. Can you imitate the position in the picture?

4. Do you think this kind of social dance develops respect and trust?
C. Lesson Proper

1. The teacher will introduce to the class the brief historical background of Tango.

2. The teacher will clap the basic rhythmic pattern of the Tango. Let the students
analyze it.

3. The teacher will demonstrate how to hold their partners and in showing each other
proper leading and following.

4. The teacher will also demonstrate the basic dance steps of Tango with their partners.
The teacher will repeat it several times until the students can already follow.

5. The teacher will let the students practice them with music and with their partners.

D. Evaluation

Based on the performance of the class, the teacher will conduct a short practical on the
basic dance steps of Tango. The teacher will divide them in small groups and allow them to
present by that groups to observe the performance of each or with partners. The teacher will
provide necessary feedback for each group.

E. Generalization

The teacher will let the students recall the brief historical background of Tango and its
basic rhythm by asking the following questions:

1. When and where does the Tango dance originate from?

2. What are the proper costumes for Tango?

3. Is Tango a good dance for you? Give your thoughts about the dance.

4. How did you feel while dancing the basic dance steps of the Tango with your partner?

IV. AGREEMENT

Let the students research and read about the next lesson in advance. Ask them to answer the
following questions in their notebooks:

1. What is Jive? Describe its historical background.

2. What is the basic rhythm of Jive?
