Summary Section
Rationale of Training In 2009, RA 9710 or the Magna Carta of Women was signed into law. The
law stipulates the role of women in nation building and enumerated the
various rights of women. More importantly, the said law clearly indicated
the need for the substantive equal opportunities of women and men.
Despite such State declaration, however, there are still persisting
discriminatory issues surrounding the status of women largely in society
and in the workplace. This suggests the need to review and implement
the institutional mechanisms set forth in the law which is Gender
Mainstreaming. EDGAR Services® (Evidence-based Development through
Goal-directed Appraisal and Research Services®) aims to weave through
gender mainstreaming in the various water district by conducting a
three-day seminar and training entitled, “Engendered Workplace:
Awareness and Sensitivity on Gender and Sexuality Issues.”
Training Objectives The training aims to produce three outputs: (i) for participants to have
the recognition of gender issues and understanding of women's and
men’s different perceptions and interests arising from their different
social position and gender roles, (ii) for participants to be analytical and
critical regarding gender disparities and becoming motivated toward
actions in addressing them, and (iii) for participants to act and display
more gender-sensitive behaviors. The EDGAR Services® and the various
water districts may partner in a transformation towards a gender-
sensitive workplace.
Scope of the Project The training will cover terms and definitions of gender and sexuality, and
gender issues that shaped the individual employees’ gender schema, the
workplace gender environment and the societal norms regarding gender.
The project also will include gender mainstreaming approaches and
Philippine and International laws that are related to gender.
Impact of the Project The training desires to produce gendered-focused individuals and
gender-sensitive workplace and communities. Project impacts, therefore,
are more cognitive- and behavior-specific on the individual level and
more participatory on the workplace and community levels.
