3. Discussion

Teacher Activity

 Let’s proceed class. (

 Okay, class, what is common noun?
 A common noun, class, is the generic
name of a person, place, thing or idea.
They are not capitalized unless they came
from the beginning of the sentence.
 Examples for common nouns are:
 boy
 river
 town
 doctor, etc.

 Now, let us use these examples in a

sentence:
 The boy is very happy.
 We need a bridge to cross the
river.
 She bought a new car.
 Due to this pandemic, my town
feels empty after the curfew hour.
 The doctor advised me to take a
leave to rest.

 Those are the examples for the common

noun, class.
 What do you mean by proper noun?
 A proper noun, class, refers to the names
of specific people, places, things or ideas.
Always remember that proper nouns
should always be capitalized.
 Examples for proper nouns are:
 Yuwe
 Agusan River
 Honda Civic 2020
 Maasin City
 Dr. Shaun Murphy

 Now, let us use these examples in a

sentence as we did with that of the
common noun:
 Yuwe is very happy.
 We need a bridge to cross Agusan
River.
 She bought a new Honda Civic
2020.
 Due to this pandemic, Maasin City
feels empty after the curfew hour.
 Dr. Shaun Murphy advised me to
take a leave to rest.

 So, those are the examples illustrating the

usage of common nouns and proper
nouns in a sentence.
 For now, let me asses your learnings with
today’s lesson.

 Yes, Sir.
 So class, that is what common noun is all about.

specific name and so they should not start in a
capital letter unless written at the beginning of
the sentence. Got it?  Sir, a proper noun is a specific name of a person,

person, place, things or idea and should always
start in a capital letter whether or not it is at the
beginning of the sentence. You got it class?
