Introduction
Fourths Tuning, or P4 Tuning as it’s also known, is a symmetrical tuning in the sense that the
interval between each string on the guitar is a perfect fourth as oppose to standard tuning where
there is a major third between the G and B strings. Fourths Tuning therefore provides a
symmetrical answer to overcoming the lack of symmetry in standard tuning, and its main
advantages are a huge reduction in the amount of patterns to be learned for chord shapes, scales
and arpeggios, which are visually consistent all over the neck.
Fourths tuning has been around for a long time, but has gained in popularity over the last decade
or so with younger players exploring the tuning and its possibilities, especially in the field of jazz
and fusion music where easy access to numerous scales and chords is fundamental.
All fretboard diagrams in this eBook are presented in F, and feature intervals as oppose to
note names so that you can easily transpose any chord shape, arpeggio or scale to any
other key.

Scales
Scales are presented in the same format as chords and arpeggios as with All Fourths Tuning there
is no established set of CAGED or 3NPS patterns as in standard tuning. Use the following
