Arnis
Arnis is more than just a physical activity that is being conducted during Physical
Education classes. It is more than just a sport that is primarily being conducted in
different part of the Philippines. Nevertheless, Arnis embarked a huge part in our
country’s history, contributing way back the year the land of Pearl of the East was
discovered by Magellan in 1521. The indigenous populations of the Philippines, who
used range weapons for combat skills and defense, developed it. Its tradition was
preserved and finally passed generations by generations until now. Hence, the
contribution of Arnis is more than just as National Sport and Martial Art to our
culture and national identity. It is a living memory and treasure that every next
generation must have and must be taught to them. It mirrors the true wealth of our
country, culture and history, which it can never be replaced and will always be
priceless. Moreover, it is also a “Filipino pride” that we can consider, having our own
sport here in our country. It was declared on December 11, 2009 through Republic
Act 9850 that Arnis as the Philippine National Martial Art and Sport. Thus, this is
one of the contributions of Arnis, being our own sport, and it mirrors our own
identity and culture as Filipinos. It is already attached to our identity, knowing that
Arnis belongs and came from our country, one of the rich country when it comes to
history and culture.
