 Cause and effect is a relationship between events or things, where one is the result

of the other or others.


 This is a combination of action and reaction.

 because, as, since, and so is followed by a clause

because, as, since, and so + clause

 “Because”, “as”, and “since” introduce a cause;


 “so” introduces an effect.
 These are used to join two complete sentences (or independent clauses) together.
 I stayed at home because it was raining.

 You need to hurry up since it’s very late now.

 I can’t go out as it’s raining.

 It was raining, so I stayed at home.

Note: You can also reverse the order of the sentences with because, as, and since.
 due to, because of, thanks to introduce a cause in the form of a noun phrase.
 due to, because of, thanks to are followed by noun phrase/noun

due to/because of/thanks to + Noun phrase

 People tend to use thanks to in positive situations.


 I stayed at home due to the rain.

 We had to cancel the picnic because of bad weather.

 As a result of the rain, we canceled the picnic.

 Thanks to his hard work, he got a raise.

Note: You can also reverse the order of the sentences.

 All of these introduce an effect.
 These are used to join two complete sentences (or independent clauses) together
 They are often used like this:

1st sentence; therefore/consequently/as a result, 2nd sentence


 It was raining; therefore, I stayed home.

 It was raining. Consequently, I stayed at home.

 I study hard because I want to pass the exam.
 We have to go home since we have no idea where to go next.
 You need to hurry up since it’s very late now.
 I can’t go out as it’s raining.
 I can’t run fast as I’m too fat.
 I love you, so I will do everything to make you happy.
 I didn’t eat anything, so I’m very hungry now.
 We had to cancel the picnic because of bad weather.
 I did it because of you.
 The flight was canceled due to the storm.
 I came home late due to the traffic jam.
 He didn’t work hard. As a result, he was fired.
 I was busy this evening. Therefore, I couldn’t come
