ICAF Comissioning Check List - MPE Catodic AS

The document provides instructions for commissioning an ICAF (Impressed Current Anode System). It describes performing visual inspections of system components and connections. Tests include measuring insulation and conductivity of installed copper anodes. Measurement tables are included to record anode resistance, potential, voltage and current with the system on and off. The protocol also describes transferring the system and checking functions, alarms and obtaining signatures upon completion.

Before testing, make sure the system is turned OFF.

Materials needed for commissioning:

1. Control sheet for verification that all anodes are properly mounted and connected.

2. Standard electrician toolbox.

3. Insulation meter (Scale 800 – 1000V).

Perform a visual check of the complete system. Check all connections, possible damages to PSU’s,
plug-boxes or cables.

Introduction:

It is very important that copper anodes are installed as described in MPE Cathodic`s ICAF manual
Section C. To make sure that the anodes will function properly during operation, the tests described
below have to be performed after the boxcoolers are installed.

An insulation test as well as a conductivity test should be performed for each anode.

Insulation test:
Use an insulation meter -“megger” - (scale 800-1000V) and measure between
disconnected wire and earth. The result should be > 500KΩ.

Conductivity test:
Disconnect wire from anode in plug-box or in PSU (Power Supply).
Short circuit anode and cathode (Hull) in the seachest.
Use an ohm-meter and measure between disconnected wire and earth inside
the plug-box / power supply. The result should be < 3Ω.

Fill in test sheets and sign for approved results. If a test result should not be according to given limits
- take action according to standard deviation procedures at the yard.
