Q max = 710.52 m 3 /s
Q = 2.22×Ls ×H1.5
Therefore; maximum afflux in the reservoir (H) = (Q max /2.22×Ls)2/3
= (710.52 / (2.22×30) )2/3
= 4.846m
4.86m < 6.00 m
Therefore, assumed Ls is satisfied.
Therefore, spillway length (Ls) = 30m
Spillway Length = 30m
Maximum afflux = 4.846m

Hd = 4.846 m take Hd=5m

If h/Hd =4 >1.33

C=2.2
h = 20 m
a = 0.875 m
b = 1.41 m
r1 = 2.5 m
r2= 1 m
Design guideline
U.S. army corps of engineer waterway experimental station (WES)

Thus, for a spillway having a vertical u/s face, the D/S crest is given by the equation

According to the latest studies of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at their' Waterways
Experimental Station (WES),the U/s curve of the ogee spillway having a vertical U/s face,
should have the following equation:

Discharge formula

𝑄 = 𝐶𝑑 𝐿𝑒𝐻𝑒 3/2

Effective length of spillway ( ) can now be worked out as

Here, Y max =20
