(EPOXY RESIN SYSTEM FOR ELECTRICAL OUTDOOR CASTING)

PRODUCT

EPOFINE® –184 is a low viscosity Cycloaliphatic liquid epoxy resin and FINEHARD® –907
is a cycloaliphatic anhydride hardener. Flexibilizer – 040 is a partially reactive additive to
improve the toughness and crack ressitance of the casting made from this combination. The
resin, hardener and flexibilizer are processed along with Accelerator – 062.

APPLICATION

EPOFINE® - 184 / FINEHARD® – 907 / Felxibilizer-040 / Accelerator - 062 is suitable for


manufacture of cast components for electrical applications in outdoor environment. FRP
composite rods and equipment cast or impregnated with the above resin and hardener are
suitable for medium and high voltage applications. While manufacturing pultruded rods, it is
not necessary to add Flexibilizer – 040.

Manufacturing process can be normal gravity casting method or pressure gelation process.

SPECIAL FEATURES

The following advantages make it ideal for industrial use.

• Simple mixing ratio (Resin : Hardener : Flexibilizer : Accelerator = 100 : 90 : 10 : 0.5 by


weight)
• Tolerant mixing ratio (± 2 %).
• Low viscosity resin/hardener mix, ensures proper wetting of the reinforcing fibre.
• Excellent weather resistance.
• Very Good chemical resistance and electrical insulation.
• High dielectric strength.
• Excellent water resistance
• Excellent resistance to UV radiation.

Processing

In case of outdoor applications, thorough mixing and wetting of the filler in the resin/hardener
mix is essential. Improper wetting of the filler leads to hair line cracks on the casting on
exposure to UV radiation. Mixing time can vary from 0.5 to 3 hours, depending on mixing
temperature, quantity, mixing equipment. Vacuum required in typically 1 – 2 mbar. The filler
should be pre-dried and the moisture should be less than 0.2%.
It is also recommended to use up to 10% of Flexibilizer – 040 to enhance crack-resistant
properties

Mould temperature

APG process 130 - 150°C


Conventional vacuum casting 80 - 100°C

Demoulding times (depending on mould temperature and casting volume)

APG process 10 - 40 min

Cure conditions (minimum post curing)

APG process 6-12h at 130°C or 140°C

STORAGE, HANDLING AND DISPOSAL

Storage : Store in a cool, dry place.


Shelf life : As given above, when stored in original sealed
containers at 2 - 40oC.
Handling : Use hand gloves and protective glasses.
Disposal : Dispose by incineration or as per local guidelines.

SAFETY INFORMATION

Flash point : Look for the individual values as above


Precautions : In case of skin contact, wash with soap and water.
In case of eye irritation, bathe the affected eye with
running water for at least 15 minutes, and get
medical attention.
