SEA GAMES Cauldron at the newly built New Clark City Sports Complex in Capas, Tarlac National
Artist for Architecture - Francisco Mañosa

1. What is the artwork about?


 The 2019 Southeast Asian Games Cauldron is a structure at the 2019
Southeast Asian Games cauldron including its backdrop and podium was
designed by Mañosa & Co. Inc. (MCI) of Filipino architect and National
Artist Francisco Mañosa.

2. What is it for?
 The Philippines will be hosting the 30th ASEAN GAMES that will be held
at the Philippine Arena in Bocaue. The Kaldero (Cauldron) will be used
for the torching ceremony as it is the main event for every Games
opening ceremony.

3. What meaning does it convey?


 “It’s a work of art,” “We see the athletes, we see the burning flames that
represent hope and fighting spirit. We think it is just appropriate”. (Alen
Peter Cayetano). By building this structure it is a way of support of the
government and fellow Filipino to our fellow athletes and by doing this
the athletes will be more inspired and determined to compete and bring
honor to our country.

4. What is it made of?


 It is made of metal bars and panes were pieced together to create a 50-
meter-high structure that would mark the opening of the regional
competition, but inside the tower that held the cauldron was a hollow
space ladened with gravel. Metal ladders were attached to one side of the
vertical structure. Its metal bolts and bearings still exposed to anyone
who would enter the "symbolic" chamber.

5. What is its style?


 The cauldron's design consists of the following:
 Three main pillars which represents the Philippines main island
groupings; Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao
 17 sub-pillars for the 17 regions of the country
 11 segments in the tower and 11 steps on the podium for the 11 countries
participating at the 2019 Southeast Asian Games.

6. How good is the artwork?


 In my own opinion it held a deeper meaning to me as a Filipino because
it represents our country and every symbols of our country were
included in the artwork such as the Philippine’s main island groupings:
Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao and the 17 regions of the country. I am
glad that we were able to show this artwork the other ASEAN
COUNTRIES.

7. What is its contribution to the society?


 It shows the creativity of the sculptors to show that Filipinos are not only
good at sports but also in arts especially in the idea of bringing art or
applying art into different medium.

8. Why is the artwork significant?


 The significant of this artwork, it shows that the Filipino artists are very
skillful when it comes to the matter of art and who are very creative and
passionate enough to showcase their talents and bring honor to our
country by representing their amazing artworks.
