Study and Learn

Read the problem below and answer two sets of questions that will follow.

Butch sold old newspapers for 32.00 and used bottles for 45.00. With
the money, he bought notebooks at 12.00 each. How many notebooks
was he able to buy? How much money was left with him?

2. Do you also sell old newspapers and used bottles? Why?

1
3. What help can you contribute to your family in selling old newspapers and
used bottles?

Set B

Let’s answer Set B questions together? Are you ready? Let’s start.

• and the money left with him

2. What are the given data in the problem?

The given data are:

Cost of the old newspapers - 32.00

Cost of the used bottles - 45.00
Cost of one notebook - 12.00

3. What is the hidden question?

The hidden question is the total money earned from the old newspapers and
used bottles.

4. What is the number sentence for the problem?

The number sentence will be:

( 32.00 + 45 ÷ 12 = N)

5. What is the final answer?

Here’s the solution and the answer.

( 32.00 + 45) ÷ 12 = N
75.00 ÷ 12 = N
6 r. 3 = N

Butch will be able to buy 6 notebooks and will have 3.00 left with him.

6. How will you check if your answer is correct?

Multiply 6 by 12.00. Then subtract the product from 75.00 to get 3.00.

Let’s try.

12 x 6 = 72.00; 75.00 – 72.00 = 3.00
