Recognition.

• The students are able to acknowledge and comprehend TOEIC Test-Reading Part
6: Error Recognition.
• The students are able to set preparation time management in answering the
questions in this test part.
• The students are able to differentiate types of questions appearing in this test’
part and how to answer based on the strategies provided.

2.1 Profile and Exam Structure


In TOEIC PART 5 – Complete the sentence, marks the beginning of the reading
skills section, according to the new TOEIC structure will have 30 multiple choice
questions, each sentence has 4 answers given. You will have to choose the one that
you think completes the sentence. When the sentence is complete it must be
grammatically correct. Candidates rely on their reading comprehension ability and
foreign language knowledge to choose the best answer to help complete the sentence
given.

2. 2 Commonly Used Contents


To do this well, you need to know the content that will appear in the test.
Contents commonly used in TOEIC PART 5 include:

• Type 1: Meaning.
That is, in the problem there are 4 given solutions that are relatively similar, be it
the same prefix, suffix, or nearly identical written words. (easily confusing
learners about meaning)
• Type 2: Preposition – Prepositions (about 4 to 5 sentences).
Candidates select prepositions to fill depending on the front and back of the
blank. (In, on, out, up, to …)
• Type 3: Word Form – Word type (there are about 14 to 15 sentences).
This type of sentence is easy to eat.
• Type 4: Connecting Words and Adverb-clause Markers (5 to 6 sentences
in the sentence)
• Type 5: Fill Relative Pronoun (usually in 1 to 2 sentences)
Who, whom, which, what, whose …
• Type 6: Fill Pronoun / Reflexive / Possessive adjectives (Pronouns,
reflexive pronouns, possessive adjectives).
There are 1 – 2 sentences of this type.

2. 3 Tips for TOEIC Reading Part 5: Incomplete Sentences


Incomplete sentences are an important part of the TOEIC reading section. This
section reading test will ask you to read a sentence that will include a blank space
(incomplete sentence).
• Your task is to choose the one answer out of four options given that you think
will complete the sentence. The sentence must be grammatically correct and fit
into the sentence to receive a point.
• The incomplete sentence question types tests your vocabulary and ability to use
phrases and words correctly.
• A key factor when choosing an answer is to pay attention to the grammar of the
sentence. Identify the subject, verb and object of the sentences; think of the
grammar rules such as singular, plural, adjectives and adverbs.

• Be aware that the words around the missing word can be useful clues for the
answer.
• Remember that all the words around the blank space are correct, so you will only
need to worry about the missing word or phrase.
• In this part of the test, you should manage to train yourself on answering each
questions within 15 seconds. This is to manage the limit given in the real TOEIC
Test.

• Choices A is an adjective.(I have a prior engagement.)
• Choice B is a verb.(I advanced the money to her.)

The correct answer is D. The sentence requires an adverb.

• Choice A indicates a source.(Water comes from the tap.)
• Choice B indicates destination.(I'm going to Hawaii.)

• Choice A is the present tense form of the verb used for "now" or "everyday". (I
