Reflection Advanced Chemistry

1) The document discusses a chemistry lesson about solutions that the author learned in their Advanced Chemistry class. 2) It draws an analogy between the types of solutions (unsaturated, saturated, supersaturated) and the pressures students face during the pandemic. 3) The author explains how being an unsaturated or saturated student allows one to handle problems, while being a supersaturated student means giving up when problems cannot be managed.

REFLECTION

ADVANCED CHEMISTRY

Sam Ashley M. Dela Cruz

My Journey as a Student
(Reflection on Advanced Chemistry)
This third grading, one of the lessons we discussed was about the
meaning of a solution and what are the types of it. As we all know, a solution is
defined as a type of homogeneous mixture consisting of two or more
substances in which one substance is dissolved in another. It could be
saturated, unsaturated, or supersaturated depending upon the dissolution of
the solute in the solvent. We also performed an experiment to identify and
categorized solutions. This is probably one of the interesting lessons we studied
this third quarter.
It has been a year since we stay in our houses during this pandemic.
People all over the world suffer major losses. Every country was forced to lock
down as Coronavirus cases quickly increasing day by day. One of the groups
that suffer the most is the students. The switch to remote or distance learning
modalities such as self-learning modules and online classes, combined with the
paradox of high-priced yet slow-speed internet access in the country, puts a
strain on families' ability to bear the additional costs for this mode of
education. Because of this, students are pressured to answer their modules
and do their school requirements, despite the said problems given above.
This issue interrelates the lesson, “Types of Solutions”. For example, let
the solutes become the problem or the pressures put on the student, and let
solvent be the student. If we add a little amount of solute to a solvent, we can
categorize it as an unsaturated solution. An unsaturated solution is a solution
that contains less than the maximum amount of solute that is capable of being
dissolved. With this, students like me can solve all the problems we encounter
and can handle the pressure given to us. We can easily fathom all of the
obstacles we wish to remove in our adventure to our desired destination.
If we add another solute to the solution until it reaches the maximum
amount that is capable to dissolved, we could call it as saturated solution. This
type of solution also interrelates the limit of a student to cope up to the stress
and problems in life. To be part of the pandemic era as a student, we exposed
to repeated stressful events academically, along with household conflicts. We
were forced to push to the limits to reach and to fulfill all the expectations by
the people around us.
If the solution exceeds the amount of solute that is capable to dissolved
in the solvent, it is called supersaturated solution. Regardless of how much you
stir it, the crystals stay at the bottom of the solution. Just like this, if a student
cannot manage the pressure, stress, or the problems they are suffering to, they
would just give up and all their hopes will just crush and disappear.
Even though supersaturated solutions could not dissolve all of the
solutes in the solvent, there are still ways to make this into a saturated
solution, such as filtering all of the excess solute and lowering the temperature.
In order to eliminate the obstacles in my life as a student in this pandemic, I
remove all the things that give off negative vibes and induce stress. This is
because it only contributes acrimony to our well-being and thus, it could affect
our performance academically.
In addition, just like how supersaturated solutions become saturated
solutions, I cool my head off as we need to stay calm and to not think the
problems that make me worried and anxious. For me, poise is a prerequisite to
peak performance. When a person is composed, sufficiently practiced and self-
assured, they will be poised for success.
