ACTIVE AND PASSIVE VOICE

Def: Voice is the form a verb which indicates whether the subject of the verb acts or
receives the action. There are two types of voice: Active voice and Passive voice.

ActiveVoice: It indicates that the subject of the verb is acting. Because the subject does
or "acts upon" the verb in such sentences, the sentences are said to be in the active
voice.

 These examples show that the subject is doing the verb's action.

The dog jumped onto the boy.

Kristy will give a book report to the class.
The computer ate my paper.

Passive Voice: In a passive voice, the subject and object flip-flop. The subject becomes
the passive recipient of the action. As the subject is being "acted upon" (or is passive),
such sentences are said to be in the passive voice.

 These examples show the subject being acted upon by the verb.

2. A SCIENCE EXHIBITION ON ROBOTS

Summary:

A science exhibition was held on the 28 th of February, 2020 wherein students showcased
working models on Robots which can be used for learning various scientific concepts for
Engineering students. The objective was not only to inculcate a scientific attitude but
also research-mindedness. Students showcased their talents on creativity and
innovation. The Science Exhibition is held as part of the National Science Day
celebration carried out at PVP Siddhartha Institute of Technology. Students from I B.
Tech. under the guidance of FED faculty participated in this activity and assembled
models on Robots.

Students had made working models, charts and posters to present their topics. Dr Ch.
Padmanabha Raju, HOD, FED took the initiative of encouraging the students to put up
such a wonderful and enlightening exhibition. The judges appreciated the students.
They asked students about the scientific concepts forming the foundation of the models.
Students were encouraged to develop a scientific fervor and an attitude of research
mindedness so that they develop the qualities of analytical and critical thinking.

Objectives:

 Creativity of students applied to solve development problems of our people and State
through Science and Technology.
 Enrich Collegiate education through finding solutions to real life problems.
 Improve understanding and develop methodology of solving complex issues.

Introduction:

Several studies focused on rural issues have helped in development activities in

Karnataka. Dissemination of technology pertaining to low cost Robot technology
pertaining to different activities have been notable examples. This programme has
enriched collegiate education through finding solutions to real life problems. This has
also improved the understanding and development of a methodology to solve complex
issues.
This programme has utilized the services of experts from various scientific and
technical institutions like Indian Institute of Science, Indian Institute of Management,
National Aerospace Laboratories, JNTUK, etc. Experts from various software
companies have joined hands in strengthening the quality of the programme.

Projects sponsored by PVPSIT through this programme have been recognized by many
industries and helped the students to seek employment. So far, this programme has
utilized the tremendous talent and potential of the students and the rich experience of
engineering faculty for tackling the real life problems of people in Andhra Pradesh.

Methodology:

Each proposal is reviewed by an expert and only those recommended are supported by
the PVPSIT. More than one hundred senior faculty of Indian Institute of Science,
scientists in national labs and other experts review the proposals. They also provide
guidelines and suggestions to make a project innovative and meaningful. On the
completion of the project, a team of experts examines the project at a nodal centre and
selects the better ones for the annual Seminar and Exhibition. It helps to identify
motivated faculty from the respective academic institutions and initiate interactions that
could lead to even better projects.

An annual College Level Exhibition of selected student projects (about 300 projects
selected by the evaluation team of experts) is held every year at PVPSIT wherein all the
faculty members and students of engineering colleges and some experts are invited to
participate. Awards for the best projects and project guides are also given during and
exhibition.

Models on Information Communication Technology:

 Demonstrate the principle and functioning of modern devices viz. television and
radio, mobile phone, fax, e-mail, internet etc.
 Developing software which can help individual students to learn at their own
pace;
 Developing innovative designs/models for the children with special needs with
visual and audio impairment
 Use ICT to popularize the knowledge and skills to design machineries for textiles,
engineering goods, chemicals, and pharmaceuticals, etc.
 Exploring uses/applications of information and communication technology in
generating employment/ eradicating illiteracy; and
 Use ICT to popularize the agricultural best practices
Screening Committee:
A College level screening committee was constituted to finalize the selection of entries
from the schools/institutions:

 It may consist representatives of Faculty of FED, PVPSIT.

 All records about the meeting of the committee should be maintained.
 The selection procedure should lay more emphasis on the quality of the exhibits
rather than quantity. It should be ensured that the exhibits are not crude and
hazardous.

Selection of the Participants:

The participants shall be from all branches of I B.Tech. For the selection of students,
the following criteria could be applicable.

S. Criteria for Selection of a student/participant Weightages in

How to Display the Exhibits and Models in the Exhibition:

 A separate stall for each theme/ sub-theme of the exhibits and models should
display

 Names of the student(s) and guiding teacher(s), and brief information about
the exhibit (may be in two sentences only).

Expenditure:

Financial support provided by the PVPSIT to respective students to organize “Science

Exhibition” to develop science and technology instinct among the youth.

Sl. Heads of Expenditure Expenditurein

5 Publication and Postal Expenses to dispatch to schools 15000.00
Total 100000.00

Conclusion:

Till now, 10 Exhibitions have been organized in different engineering colleges. An

expert panel is constituted to select best projects for the 'Project of The Year award'. A
trophy is also presented every year to the Best Performing students along with cash
prizes. In order to encourage all the students of the selected projects for Exhibition,
each one of them will be given a certificate and a cash prize.

Recommendations:

In the wake of Globalization, the technical institutions need to conduct project

exhibitions for students by providing necessary funding who utilize their innate
creativity and innovative talents to bring out a project which is of social relevance. It
involves students to participate in activities so as to understand the cognitive, affective
and psychomotor aspects of the task.
