Quarter 3 - Week 4 Lesson Plan

This lesson plan aims to teach students about climate change and its effects. It will explain concepts like the greenhouse effect and carbon footprints. Students will complete an activity ranking weather phenomena influenced by greenhouse gases. For evaluation, students will answer multiple choice and short answer questions testing their understanding of human activities that cause climate change and impacts like sea level rise, droughts and stronger typhoons. The lesson aims to describe global climate phenomena and how human actions contribute to climate change.

LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE

For Grade 9
(Quarter 3 – Week 4)
Prepared by:
Aaron L. Asne
I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
 Describe certain climate phenomena that occur on a global level.
II. Subject Matter
Climate Change
Reference: Science 9 Learner’s Module, pp. 195 – 202
DepEd: Pasig City, First Edition, 2014
Materials
Handouts made by High School Teachers
Book
Laptop
III. Procedure
A. Preparation

 The tutor will ask the student to think of a time when change or a new
event was happening in her life. What did she do to adapt to this change or
event.
C. Lesson Proper
 The tutor will explain what climate change is, what causes and effects it
has, and what might happen to the earth's climate in the future.
D. Application
 The student will complete an activity titled "Torrents, Droughts, and
Twister Oh My."Using the images provided on the laptop, the student will
rank which weather and/or climate phenomena scientists believe are most
influenced by or influence Earth's increasing heat-trapping gases.
IV. Evaluation
On your science notebook, read each direction and answer what is asked.
Choose the letter of the correct answer.
1. A carbon footprint is defined as “the total sets of greenhouse gas emissions caused
by an organization, event, product or person”.
Which of the following contributes to the carbon least to the carbon footprint?

b. Driving a car to the shops
c. Burning your trash in the backyard
d. Riding a bike to school
2. The greenhouse effect is caused by __________.
a. Greenhouse gases in the lower atmosphere absorbing solar radiation
b. Greenhouse gases in the lower atmosphere absorbing radiation from the
earth’s surface, and preventing much of it from escaping into space.
c. Too much heat in the ocean waters
d. Too much sunshine reaching earth
3. Climate change can lead to _________.
a. Sea level rise and floods in coastal areas
b. Droughts
c. Stronger typhoons
d. All of the above
4. Which is the best practice to reduce the effect of climate change?
a. Livestock raising
b. Burning fossil fuel
