A Ticket To Education: Studenthood Is A Time For Many Beautiful Things: New Friends, New Places, New Experiences
Studenthood is a time for many beautiful things: new friends, new places, new experiences.
I have always believed that any experience has the gift of shaping us as human beings, to form
our characters, to slowly and surely pave a nice road in life. Participation in an Erasmus+ internship
is a complex life experience, which opened my horizons and taught me to have more confidence in
myself and my own ideas.
I am passionate about non-formal education and I believe the learning through experience and
volunteering can make people more adaptable, tolerant and open to change. However, I chose
Erasmus+ internship, without really knowing what's ahead of me. I have always wanted to study
abroad, live in another country and test my limits. The program gave me the opportunity to do all
this things and I feel grateful.
Even if we are in a pandemic situation, here I had the opportunity to experience a different
learning model from the one in Romania, much more open, based on argumentative discussions,
practical case studies and presentations with feedback from teachers. The course program is much
better organized and less crowded, and what delighted me the most was the fact that I was offered
the opportunity to choose the courses I want to attend. I really felt that the focus is on the assimilation
of information by students, not on teaching as many notions as possible in a short time, and teachers
are the ones who determine students to reach certain conclusions by themselves.
Despite all these, I encountered certain difficulties, which are more a consequence of the
pandemic situation we are in. I mean, it was pretty hard for me to adjust and get to know a new
country on my own. I just wish, to meet my college colleagues, teachers, to hold face-to-face
courses, to undertake certain activities through which I could get to know Polish culture much better.
Even if all these things were not and probably will not be, I still managed to learn from Polish
culture, that people are proud of their origins and respect their national origins, that despite a cruel
history, they have recovered, rebuilding even a capital burned to the ground, that the core values are
family, work and respect for others.
I could also notice similarities between Romania and Poland, so the culture shock was not a
significant one: similar communist past, some dishes, organic products, but I think Poland is one
step ahead in the first place, the attitude of the people to one's own country.
The conclusion I was left with at the end is that Erasmus mobility has been and is, in itself, a
development experience and I am delighted that I have been able to form a European consciousness
and that I have been able to add value to my personal education. I rediscovered myself and began
to realize how far I could go, what I wanted to do next, and that, in fact, the limit was only where I
wanted to stop. I think that every student should be part of this program at least once because, in
addition to the opportunity to interact with other people, with other cultures, with other educational
structures and contents, you get to know yourself, to outline a clearer picture of future plans and, of
course, new perspectives. At the end of the internship it will be quite difficult for me to break up
with Poland, but I will return home and try to contribute to the development of my own country.
