Advanced Communication Network: M. Tech. (1 Sem) Electronics and Communication Engineering

This document outlines the topics that will be covered in an Advanced Communication Networks course. The 4 units are: 1) An overview of concepts in the Internet including TCP/IP, congestion control, and fairness issues. 2) Real-time communications over the Internet including latency, throughput, and resource reservation. 3) Packet scheduling algorithms for guaranteed service connections like GPS, WFQ, and rate proportional algorithms. 4) Challenges in IP address lookup and techniques like grid of tries, admission control concepts, differentiated services, IP versions, tunneling, switching, and MPLS architecture. The course will reference 5 textbooks on high performance networks, network calculus, Internet QoS, communication networking, and ATM performance.
