1. Apply Tooling (D) onto the taper of suspension cylinder (1) . Use Tooling (B) and a suitable
lifting device to install spindle (2) onto suspension cylinder (1) . The weight of spindle (2) is
approximately 455 kg (1003 lb).

2. Measure the thickness of retainer plate (5) . Record the result as Dimension (X) .

3. Install retainer plate (5) .

4. Install three bolts (4) , equally spaced. Tighten bolts (4) to a torque of 203 ± 27 N·m (150 ± 20
lb ft).

5. Use Tooling (E) to measure the distance between the bottom of the strut rod and the outside
face of retainer plate (5) . Record the result as Dimension (Y) .

6. Subtract Dimension (X) from Dimension (Y) and record the result as Dimension (Z) .

7. Subtract 4.19 ± 0.03 mm (0.1650 ± 0.0012 inch) from Dimension (Z) . Record the difference
between the two measurements as Dimension (ZZ) .

8. Remove bolts (4) . Remove retainer plate (5) .

9. Install a number of shims (6) that are equal to Dimension (ZZ) . Install retainer plate (5) . Install
bolts (4) .

10. Tighten bolts (4) one at a time. Do not exceed tightening bolts (4) more than one half turn at a
time. Tighten bolts (4) in a circular pattern. Continue this procedure until bolts (4) are tightened
to a torque of 1085 ± 34 N·m (800 ± 25 lb ft).

11. Install bracket assemblies (3) . Remove Tooling (B) and from spindle (2) . The weight of
spindle (2) and suspension cylinder (1) is approximately 1374 kg (3028 lb).

End By:

a. Install the front suspension.


b. Install the front wheel bearings and Duo-Cone seals.
