Dynamics of Rigid Bodies Midterm Exam

The document contains a midterm exam for dynamics of rigid bodies with 5 multi-part problems involving blocks, pulleys, cables, and forces. The problems calculate accelerations, velocities, tensions and involve coefficients of friction.

Dynamics of Rigid Bodies Midterm Exam

Name:_____________________________________ Year/Section:_______________

1. Determine the accelerations of bodies A and B and the tension in the cable due to the
application of the 250 N force. Neglect all friction and the masses of the pulleys.

2. Two blocks are joined by an inextensible cable as shown. If the system is released
from rest, determine the velocity of block A after it has moved 2 m. Assume that the
coefficient of friction between block A and the plane is μk = 0.25 and that the pulley is
weightless and frictionless.

3. If the mass of block A is 10 kg and the mass of block b is 5 kg, find the following

a. Acceleration of block A

b. Acceleration of block B

c. The tension of the cable connected to block B

5. A 5 kg block A shown travels to the right at 0.6 m/s at the instant. Mass of block B is
10 kg. If the coefficient of friction is 0.20, determine

a. The acceleration of block B after it has moved 1.2m.

b. The velocity of block A after it has moved 1.2 m.
