Correlation 1: Dynamics

This document provides an overview of topics in kinematics and kinetics, including formulas and example problems. It covers rectilinear and curvilinear translation, rotation, reversed effective force, centrifugal force, ideal angle of banking, work and energy, and impulse and momentum. Example problems are presented and solved for each topic to demonstrate applications of the relevant formulas.

KINEMATICS (RECTILINEAR TRANSLATION)
•Formulas:

Variable Acceleration Constant Acceleration

KINEMATICS (RECTILINEAR TRANSLATION)

Problem:
A train upon passing point A at a speed of 72kph
accelerates at 0.75m/s2 for one minute along a straight
path then decelerates at 1m/s2. How far in kilometers
from point A will it be 2 minutes after passing point A?
(4.65)
KINEMATICS (CURVILINEAR TRANSLATION)
Problem:
A bullet is fired at an initial velocity of 150 m/s and an angle
of 56° at the top of a 120 m tall building. Neglecting air
resistance, determine the following:
a. the maximum height above the level ground that can be
reached by the bullet. (908.19m)
b. the time for the bullet to hit the ground. (26.284s)
c. the velocity with which the bullet will hit the ground.
(157.656m/s)
KINEMATICS (ROTATION)
•Formulas:

KINEMATICS (ROTATION)
Problem:
A horizontal platform with a diameter of 6m revolves
about its center at 20rpm. Find the tangential speed in
m/s of a point at the edge of the platform. (6.28)
KINETICS (REVERSED EFFECTIVE FORCE)
Problem:
The car shown below is given a rightward acceleration of
8.05ft/s2. The sum of the friction forces F1 and F2 under the
wheels is 20lb. Weight of the car is 1000lb. Center of gravity is
located 3ft from the ground. The horizontal pulling force P is
situated 2ft from the ground. Front and rear wheels are 10ft
apart. Find the values of R1(521lb), R2(479lb), and P(270lb).
KINETICS (CENTRIFUGAL FORCE)
•  Formula:

Problem:
A rod, 4ft long, rotates in a horizontal plane about a vertical axis
through its center. At each end of the rod is fastened a cord, 3ft long.
Each cord supports a weight W. Compute the speed of rotation n in rpm
to incline each cord at 300 with the vertical. (n=22rpm)
KINETICS (IDEAL ANGLE OF BANKING)
•Formulas:

(ideal speed)
(maximum speed without skidding outward)
(minimum speed without sliding inward)
KINETICS (IDEAL ANGLE OF BANKING)
Problem:
A daredevil drives a motorcycle around a circular vertical wall
100ft in diameter. The coefficient of friction between tires and
wall is 0.60. What is the minimum speed that will prevent his
sliding down the wall? At what angle will the motorcycle be
inclined to the horizontal? (v=35.3mph; ϴ=310)
KINETICS (WORK AND ENERGY)
•Formulas:

(Work)
(Kinetic Energy)
(Potential Energy)
Problem:
A block weighing 96.6lb is dropped from a height of 4ft upon a spring
whose modulus is 100lb per in. What velocity will the block have at the
instant the spring deformed 4in? (15.3ft/s)
KINETICS (IMPULSE AND MOMENTUM)
•Formulas:

(Impulse-Momentum Equation)

(Law of Conservation of Momentum)

KINETICS (IMPULSE AND MOMENTUM)
Problem:
a 2000-lb shell is fired from a gun weighing 300,000lb. If
the muzzle velocity of the shell is 1500ft/s and the recoil of
the gun is checked by a nest of springs having a modulus of
2000lb/in, what is the maximum recoil distance? (6.22ft)
