DANCE AS ENTERTAINMENT
Professional dancers have worked as entertainers since prehistory. In ancient Egypt, the
first recorded professional dancers, along with acrobats and musicians, entertained royalty. In
ancient Greece dance was part of theater. From medieval times through the renaissance, dance
was entertainment and amusement for nobles and peasants alike.
DANCE AS EXERCISE
Dancing can be a way to stay fit for people of all ages, shapes and sizes. It has a wide
range of physical and mental benefits including:

DANCE AS RITUALS
Theater, dance, drama, dance drama, dance theater, and similar activities known by other

otherwise specified, herein the term ritual refers to both secular and sacred
rituals. Performance is an inclusive term meaning the activities of actors, dancers, musicians, and
their spectators and audiences.

Dance has been functioning in our society for centuries. It is undeniable to claim that
dance has never crossed your path because it appears in our daily lives such as in school,
television, parks, clubs, places of worship, parades etc. Dance was able to alleviate the numerous
problems society faced in during the early years of the 20th Century, which saw through several
evolutions of dance.

When we allow our bodies to flow with the music, we let our minds work freely. We don’t need
language, all we need is to feel and express ourselves physically. The doors of spontaneity and

down new roads.

Dancing allows us to connect to our innermost selves. Through dance, we can express emotions
that we may not even be conscious of. It frees us from the weights we carry. It gives us the
opportunity to get to know ourselves through a different language
